Joris Posted October 21, 2023 Report Posted October 21, 2023 Hi, After waiting almost a year longer than anticipated because of the bankruptcy of ASP Avionics in Belgium, my panel is finally done. Very happy with the result. Only, moving the magneto key up, above the USB, was not a good idea. The bulge in the side-plastic makes it a bit hard to reach. 14 Quote
laytonl Posted October 21, 2023 Report Posted October 21, 2023 Great layout. Moving the mag switch should not be too difficult. Lee Quote
EricJ Posted October 22, 2023 Report Posted October 22, 2023 I'm leaning toward replacing the switch with one of these. Looks like you have room for one now. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/ea-ignswchpanel.php 1 Quote
Joris Posted October 23, 2023 Author Report Posted October 23, 2023 Thanks all for the nice comments. I'll look into that mag switch. Seems like a nice solution. Quote

wombat Posted October 23, 2023 Report Posted October 23, 2023 My opinion: If the door was locked then by the time someone is in the cockpit of a plane and considering stealing it an ignition key vs. a few buttons isn't going to make much difference. And aircraft theft is incredibly rare. Not that it doesn't exist and some precautions to prevent it are not worthwhile but if my plane gets stolen I'll collect my insurance and buy another one. On the other hand: I really like the key on the dash as my visual indicator that the mags are off. 3 Quote

That's pretty much my only reason for still having a key switch. I'm just mentally preparing myself to always having to look in the storm window (or reach in) to make sure the mags are off. Quote
KSMooniac Posted October 23, 2023 Report Posted October 23, 2023 The EI switch panel allows visual inspection that they're off as well. Not quite as quick as the key, but you can see it. Great panel update! I'm looking forward to updating my 1977 Naugahyde black panel to a modern tan color to match my interior. Quote

My panel is black too, and it seems really dark in there. Looking forward to a lighter color someday. Quote
