HIghpockets Posted February 18, 2023 Report Posted February 18, 2023 My avionics blower is slowly going tango uniform. On startup, it will screech. Flicking the avionics master off/on will stop the noise. I've attached a photo. I am looking for a replacement. I am told they are hard to come by. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted February 18, 2023 Report Posted February 18, 2023 Have you tried lubeing it? Quote
stevesm20b Posted February 18, 2023 Report Posted February 18, 2023 I found one on eBay a while back. Quote
carusoam Posted February 18, 2023 Report Posted February 18, 2023 Could be just a motor replacement or OH…? Something to consider… check with your favorite avionics shop… newer avionics are coming with their own fans lately… -a- Quote
smwash02 Posted February 18, 2023 Report Posted February 18, 2023 They go bad because they're sleeve bearings in those motors. You can swap the motor like many of us have done on the defrost -- Thread here Or buy one of the alternatives like this, which was my plan until my upgrade removed the need for it. 1 Quote
larryb Posted February 18, 2023 Report Posted February 18, 2023 The first question to ask is "Do I need it?" Most modern avionics have internal fans and do not need a blower anymore. That happened to me, after an avionics upgrade the installed avionics blower was still there but all the hoses were stuffed in the console and not connected to any equipment. Once I discovered that I had it removed. And I still have it in the hangar if somebody needs a 28V avionics blower. Quote
Guillaume Posted February 18, 2023 Report Posted February 18, 2023 You need to remove the blower from the aircraft, disassemble it, lube the shaft and noise will be gone. I've been there already . Quote
laytonl Posted February 20, 2023 Report Posted February 20, 2023 I bought this one. It only has three ports, but was fine for my needs. It took a few modifications to get it to fit and it’s a difficult spot to work. I replaced my failing Blower to cool my kap150. Now that I have a gfc500, I really don’t see much need for the blower.
