In part from the Shell website:

 AEROSHELL 100 PLUS

AeroShell 100 Plus

Modern Additives come to Aviation Engine Oil

Shell has developed a new aviation monograde which takes advantage of modern additive technology. This oil, AeroShell Oil W100 Plus, is a SAE 50 grade similar to the traditional W100 grade, but includes an anti wear additive, an anti corrosion additive and a metal passivator.

How is Camguard any different from the W100 Plus additive?

Well with 12 qts of Phillips 66 running $93 and a pint of cam guard at $28 it’s still cheaper than aeroshell 100+ at $130 for 12 qts. That’s the difference.

I treat a whole case of Phillips 20-50 when I get it. I put an open quart of 20-50 on a food scale, zero it out, and pour in CamGuard until it says 50 grams. 50 grams is almost exactly 1.6 ounces.

Very easy.

Assuming it has the same density as water.

Density 0.90-0.94 g/cm³

So 50 grams is 45 - 47 cm3.  Or 1.52 to 1.59 ounces.

So you should measuring by weight put in 51 to 53 grams. :D

Just try and stop at 50! It's always 51 to 55. :-)

You guys are Measuring something to the nearest half of a percent that the manufacturer says add 5 to 10%

Yes, yes. I know.

I do it that way because it's easy, and because it helps me not to overuse an expensive product.

But then, I use a food scale to make my oatmeal in the morning. 60 grams of oatmeal, pour in water until it reads 300.

Yes, but 1.6 ounces per quart is 5%.  So you should be at least at that point or higher.

So 1.55 ounces is not enough. :D :D :D

Guys, a related question, I have my Mooney out of a annual inspection (10 hours TT after the annual). I bought a bottle of CamGuard. Can I pour it in into the existing oil? I mean, I know that I would be using camguard in an oil that is already 40% of it's lifetime, but apart from that, any issue? Or do you recommend me to wait until the oil change (I'm planning to do it at 25 hours mine, at least at the beginning as the engine has been sitting for 12 months and want to take the best care possible while I bring it back to regular flying).

The only thing that will get hurt is your wallet. Pour away!

Aeroshell 100 Plus contains the Lycoming additive. Ok if you have a Lycoming engine but not good for Continetal starter adapters nor does it contain as strong anti-corrosion additive as Cam-Guard. You can note this by the Phosphrus and Calcium numbers in the oil analysis between the two.
