I love what you have done! It’s absolutely stunning. I looked at a plane with a similar arrangement of avionics, minus the big screen and GFC. It had a pair of G5s with GNC 355 & 255 head units. The problem we had was we couldn’t get VOR from the 255 to the G5 HSI and then to the autopilot. With your setup, can you navigate from the 255 and get the GFC to track a VOR? Again, great job! Would you order it if you were doing it over? I'm trying to decide if I need it or not. Probably getting the nylon. I don't know the difference (have not done a comparison), so I guess not Quote

My 66' M20E's paint is not what it used to be so I'm looking at different paint schemes and options. Your "Anomaly" has blown me out of the water and pushed right through the envelope of my imagination. I first saw it on AOPA then here in Mooneyspace and am totally impressed. Probably not what I will do but am encouraged to start thinking outside the box a little more. Thanks to Matt too, amazing job! Quote
Hank Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 It's even a more impressive accomplishment after hearing the painter complain that this paint job took three weeks! Apparently no one told him that what he described as simple, unimaginative airplane paint jobs with only three colors (mostly white with a fee whirls stripes) take at least two or three times as long . . . . I really don't follow. Matt was thrilled that it only took 3 weeks to apply the color. The airplane was at the shop for 10 or 11 weeks... Matt's work began once the airplane was already stripped, repaired, alodine'd, primer'd, and brought to base coat white. Matt worked right between white and the clear. Quote

Personally, I can't imagine how much effort went into the taping, and was shocked that it was only three weeks. 1 Quote
hais Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 What is your experience with the G3X offset to the right when flying IFR, is it a comfortable "rest position" or does it bother a bit to look off to your right for extended periods? My shop suggested a similar position, but I was concerned it might not be comfortable. Quote
Raymond J1 Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 Boris VIAN takes up the definition of pataphysics as it appears in Alfred JARRY's "Gestures and opinions of Doctor Faustroll", specifying that "pataphysics is to metaphysics what metaphysics is to physics". Two of the fundamental principles of pataphysics are the equivalence of opposites and the importance given to the exception rather than the general case. Boris VIAN adds that in the scientific field, it is moreover the anomaly that advances the discovery. 1 Quote

It is just a few inches off-center, relative to the yoke rod, so it is still comfortably in forward view. But I just got the plane out of the shop a few weeks ago so I haven't put a lot of time onto this avionics platform just yet, so I don't have a solid response for you at this time. 1 Quote
jkgyr52 Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 I self installed a SpaceSaver interior in a M20K - it is a lot of person hours and if I had to do one again I would pay a pro with experience in this kit. The finished product was acceptable but not as precise as I had imagined. Lesson learned... Quote

Matt worked right between white and the clear.Much more fair and accurate estimate For plain white : if no numbers or stripes: It takes us 1-2 days to remove control surfaces, and apply tape / cover plexi and wingtips/other fiberglass, masking etc. 3 days if there are issues. This is to prep for the strip.Stripping takes a good day - and stripper only likes 65-80 degree weather. Rinsing, cleaning, etc. then off to brightening the aluminum /acid etching. Primer takes 2-4 hours to apply depending on size. Once primer is dry, it’s getting the surface imperfections ready for paint. Paint takes 3-5 hours. Imron, which we paint with, takes about 4-7 hours to be ready for tape, usually curing overnight. What is absolutely fabulous about this paint job is that the artist took the tedious and repetitive task of taping and masking the airplane front to back or however he chose it and made it look as awesome as he did using Montana paints- and did it in 3 weeks. The airplane will have all the durability of an aircraft paint job with the artwork on top, living as long as the clear coat will hold out. I’d be curious to see what clear the shop used….if hangared this plane will have an awesome lifespan on a paint job, as some colors tend to fade more than others under continuous sun exposure. Parking your plane at the paint shop for months at a time? Hmmmm ok. Not kosher Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote
