Has anyone ever come across this? I understood cowl flaps went electric in 1988. This definitely a ‘94 but has manual control. Maybe it should be named Rare Bird.

I believe  what you have there is the Advanced Trainer version. The M20J MSE AT

That would be why I was confused then because my prior J experience was in new AT’s in I think 89. It was before Desert Shield and that happened in 90. I don’t remember electric cowl flaps, I know that would have stuck as I think it odd

I found an AT POH on line and it clearly had push pull cowl flaps. I found an Aviation Consumer article that implied the AT was made through 94. Correct me if you have better info.

I thought about that too but AT’s had dual brakes and this is only pilot side.

The AT’s I flew also had speed brakes, button on the outside of the left yoke again if memory serves

These were installed as an add-on in ‘97, at the Mooney factory.

I would ask Jimmy Garrison - he knows more about Mooneys than Mooney.  He may even have sold it once (or twice).

I’ve reached out to Mooney to see if the build sheet is available. If it is, that would make a great piece of provenance to go with the plane.

Video of another ‘94 J that appears to have manual trim and manual cowl flaps.  So perhaps it’s not that rare..

That Seneca has two G5s (four, actually) and no air instruments.   D'oh.    Somebody didn't read the STC.

That is interesting.  Outfit seems and looks professional but the J ad includes the worst example I’ve ever seen of “ complete logbooks”.

Saw that. Yeah, hard to read.

It turns out that this plane IS a 1994 AT, but not quite, missing all the normal AT deletions, but also missing the one desirable item of copilot brakes. Regardless, it’s headed into prebuy and hopefully will be coming home to Georgia in a few weeks.

I didn’t want to say anything earlier, but this is exact plane that I was looking at. I didn’t know about this video but now that I do, it will get shared.
Thanks!

My favorite part was missing multiple radio calls because he’s more interested in the cameras than paying attention to ATC.

I wouldn’t want copilot brakes as I believe that’s two more master cylinders and a shuttle valve. On other aircraft I’ve worked on the shuttle valve was a real PIA in bleeding etc.

It’s function I think is it’s a valve that opens up to the set of master cylinders that are being used and shuts off the other set, so you kind of have two hydraulic systems connected to one, then of course it’s another complex component.

My C-140 has dual brakes but the CP side connects mechanically to the pilots pedals, so the same hydraulic system as single brakes, but I don’t think that’s how Mooney did it?
