Lead buildup in prop shaft

Pulling the prop off to have reseal, repaint and new boots installed and uncovered this phenomenon.   My mechanic says it is normal, the theory is the centrifugal action spins the lead out of the oil and it accumulates.  No idea if this is normal buildup but mechanic wasn't concerned.  About 1500 TT.    

The rusting/corrosion on mounting surface will be addressed.

Yep, that's normal. I use big popsicle sticks to dig that crud out. If there is stubborn stuff, I use the rounded end of a 6" steel rule. Then wipe it out with a paper towel wetted with mineral spirits. The best thing for the crank flange is a thin coat of yellow zinc chromate, but you can't get it any more.

Yes, I looked and did find some too. About a year ago I couldn't find it anywhere. The yellow is just zinc chromate and propellent. The green has carbon black added for body. You wouldn't want any thickness on the prop flange so the yellow is what you want to use.

It’s normal for sludge to build up there because it’s a dead end oil flow wise, oil goes in and out, but not through.

In an attempt to help keep as much from building as I can is why I cycle the prop three times during run up, under the idea that pumping oil into and out of that cavity wil help flush it out to some degree.

I’ve always been able to get zinc chromate primer, but it seems the putty is gone, I wonder why?

Your screen shot shows no stock. I have not been able to get any aviation specific stuff, but an on line search shows that there are a few available marketed for marine on Amazon. They appear to be the real deal with positive reviews.
