Looks like one of my sight gauge faces disappeared. Apparently they’re glued in with silicone and are magnetically coupled to the floats. Anyone got a source that doesn’t require purchasing the entire assembly?

First remember who makes the dial indicator… (?)

The lenses don’t last forever…. They are sensitive to sun.

I believe you can buy the lens without much difficult…

There might be a thread around here for that… often the needles break off a piece too…

Fortunately, this doesn’t happen very often or I would be writing about what post to go to….  :)

The gauge part is relatively low cost as well, which may lead to replacing that whole part…

They’re back ordered at Mooney about three months.

The needle broke off one of mine. Clarence may know that 3 month time frame as he's got one on order for me.

Is that just the external indicator, or the whole assembly with float? (Asking because someone in another thread said Mooney would no longer sell the indicator alone). What’s Mooney charging for these? I have a slightly cracked one I may need to replace at some point.

Thanks,

My wife, who does the parts chasing said it was for the dial only.  Some Piper Lance/Saratoga series use them as well.

You will only need the lens/dial unit. The sender in the tank turns a magnet which causes the dial in the unit on top to turn. It is a cinch to change. I think a place in Varo Beach FL sold them at one point.

Yes, Rochester makes them, but many years ago I had a big fight with them because they would not sell them to me. They claim that Mooney has proprietary rights they would not violate. They sell these same gauge (with different markings) for a zillion other applications for about $5 each.

I’m sure they are manufactured to Mooney’s drawings, so they are an aircraft part sort of, Unless Rochester has PMA they can’t sell aircraft parts, and I’d guess don’t want to lose their customers.

Even though Rochester manufacturers it IAW the drawing, it’s not until Mooney inducts the part into their QC system that it becomes an aircraft part.

BuI bet money without even seeing one that it’s used for propane tanks or something similar with a different dial face

The gages are made by Rochester. The capsules are the same as those for some boat and industrial applications. The boat capsules have ears for screws to hold them in place. If you cut the ears off, they would fit in our gages. They cost about $5. The problem is the scales would be wrong. The swing of the arm that spins the needle is different for different tanks. The Mooney capsules have custom scales that match our tank geometry.
