I've seen a few threads here and other places discussing TKS retrofit prices, most of it was speculative (people saying I think, I've heard).  I just talked to CAV systems and found out the following:

FIKI on a Bravo or Ovation (and presumably Acclaim) is $75k.  You cannot upgrade from inadvertent to FIKI;, they have to tear down the whole system.

FIKI is available on M20K 252, provided the landing light is moved to match the Encore.  Again, $75k.

Inadvertent only on older M20k and M20J.  This requires a custom set up, so the price is $65k-$70k.

In case you are wondering, a V-tail Bonanza (inadvertent only) is about $53k.  A Columbia/Cessna 300/350 (inadvertent only) is $38k.  A Cessna 210 is $65k for inadvertent, and then someone else to do STCs to get it to FIKI.

Hope this is helpful to someone.

I'm guessing FIKI is only available on 252's that have two alternators, since that is one of the FIKI requirements.

I'm sure it would be better to have TKS across the whole wing, but they did the certification with the mid wing lights.

This comment made me think... Would the heat given of by the old halogen bulbs have been the reason the wing lights were not moved for certification? Would replacing these with LED's technically cancel that at least on paper?

Some FIKI people leave one incandescent bulb on each side and put in one led bulb on each side. They have some heat for ice melting in that area plus that always have one reliable light to land when the incandescent burns out.

I doubt it.  There is no mention of turning on the landing lights in the POH supplement.  It's probably a sufficiently small area to have no effect on performance.

I assume the fluid would spread out as it moves covering the wing, so only the small leading edge lens portion would ice up.

the landing and taxi light plexi do collect ice in moderate icing conditions....use of the older GE icandscent doesnt seem to work well for melting off ice.....that portion is usually last to break off...maybe from fluid spread or changing alitude and temp..im not sure...but i landed at st george utah with a 2 or 3 in bulge over the light that my wife walked over and slapped it off....

That actually seems like a great idea. Does anyone know what bulb was supposed to be in a 2000 Ovation taxi light?
