721lp Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 Check out my last post w/pix of the installed light. I really like the lower load on the alternator...... Quote
omeg708 Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 Which LED did you end up installing and are you happy with the the beam intensity? My landing light burned out tonight and I'm considering replacing it with an LED bulb. Thanks! Quote
N9660M Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 It looks like the same LED I put in my plane a couple of weeks ago. It's the Whelen PAR46 light. I got mine from Aircraft Spruce and Specialty, but think there are others selling it as well. I think the intensity is fine, as good or a little better than the stock bulb. I'm sure it's not as good as some of the HID systems, but a lot cheaper. Jim Quote
721lp Posted December 19, 2011 Author Report Posted December 19, 2011 Yeah, Whelen Parmetheus PAR 46. Got it from Tex Aero. Agree with 9660M. Nice bright white beam. Low current draw.... Quote
Hank Posted December 19, 2011 Report Posted December 19, 2011 I like the looks! It will pair up nicely with my new Whelen LED belly strobe. How good is the light on the runway coming down final? I'm also curious about how much paperwork you had to do for the install. So far, my last GE bulb is still holding out, 2½ years after install. Unless I just cursed it . . . But it will eventually need replacing. Were any wiring changes needed, or is it a simple plug-in replacement??? Quote
Hank Posted December 20, 2011 Report Posted December 20, 2011 Quote: nosky2high Hank, which LED Bell Strobe model did you go with? Is there a direct replacement for the factory red rotating beacon or is there some modifications the need performed? Quote
721lp Posted December 20, 2011 Author Report Posted December 20, 2011 Hank, The LED light is MUCH whiter. It makes all the white lines JUMP out at you. There was no paperwork because it is a simple bulb replacement and no mods were required. Quote
Hank Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 That's great news! It's all I had to do to swap out blinkers on the belly, too, except they are wired in and I had to cut and re-crimp. Logged it in with an A&P oversight autograph; the LED landing light being owner-approved maintenance is excellent news. Quote
721lp Posted December 21, 2011 Author Report Posted December 21, 2011 Hank, I don't think you'll regret the light. worth it just to go from about 19 amps draw down to about 2 amps. Quote

Ron McBride Posted December 25, 2011 Report Posted December 25, 2011 I noticed that there is a trim ring around the bulb that I'm certain needs to come out, but I've heard that you may have to remove the right side cowling to get to the light as well. Any helpful advice? On my 69 F, you would have to pull the right side cowling to access the wiring. Ron Quote
omega708 Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 Ordered my LED replacement lamp from aircraftspruce.com two days ago. It's on back order, but they're expecting a shipment early next week. Quote
robert14 Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 On a recent night flight, just after I replaced my old belly strobe with a new LED belly strobe, my incandesent landing light failed on final approach. There was enough light from the flashing LED belly strobe to light up the runway just before and during the flare. I have now replaced "all" lights on my 65 M20E with LEDs. Quote
omega708 Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 Glad to hear the LEDs are working out for you. I'm hoping to replace my topside beacon and nav lights soon. Quote
jkb458 Posted January 2, 2012 Report Posted January 2, 2012 I ordered my M20E a Christmas present. I finally got it installed today. Whelen Parametheus PAR 46 from Aircraft Spruce. With the engine off, I used to get a 0.4V - 0.5V drop with the incandescent landing light. The LED landing light does not induce a measureable voltage drop. Quote
SkyPilot Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Nice! I gotta get one. Are they less weight? Quote

johnggreen Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 Are these LED bulbs available for the wing mounted light that are on the Bravo? Jgreen Quote

jetdriven Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 How many candlepower are those LED bulbs? They look cool, but appear a little weak. Quote
