PT20J Posted August 7, 2021 Report Posted August 7, 2021 Short of a bead breaker, what's everyone's favorite method to break the tire beads? I tried the plywood circle method in the Parker manual without much luck. I went back to my old standby: beating around the sidewall with a rubber mallet. Skip Quote

A64Pilot Posted August 7, 2021 Report Posted August 7, 2021 Big hammer, just put the wheel on a rubber pad or similar and some soapy water may help some, I use a steel hammer, just have to be careful not to hit the wheel, if I had a big enough rubber mallet I’d use it. Cheap bead breakers are available for not much money, just I so rarely change tires I’ve never bought one. https://www.amazon.com/Breaker-RLV-Adjustable-Diameter-Wheels/dp/B00MBVSMTM/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=small+tire+bead+breaker&qid=1628370526&sr=8-4 Quote

Guest Posted August 8, 2021 Report Posted August 8, 2021 Just don’t use a hammer and a screwdriver, I’ve seen wheels junked with this method. Clarence Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted August 8, 2021 Report Posted August 8, 2021 After doing the tire dance for the last 35 years, I finally broke down and bought the Harbor Freight bead breaker. It works great. 3 1 Quote
