Short of a bead breaker, what's everyone's favorite method to break the tire beads? I tried the plywood circle method in the Parker manual without much luck. I went back to my old standby: beating around the sidewall with a rubber mallet.

Stepping on the tire. I put a couple towels under the rim to makes sure it doesnt bend or scratch.

Big hammer, just put the wheel on a rubber pad or similar and some soapy water may help some, I use a steel hammer, just have to be careful not to hit the wheel, if I had a big enough rubber mallet I’d use it.

Cheap bead breakers are available for not much money, just I so rarely change tires I’ve never bought one.

Just don’t use a hammer and a screwdriver, I’ve seen wheels junked with this method.
