I'd put some anti-chafe tape on the back side of the leading edge of the fairings to eliminate  metal-to-metal contact.

What is behind the four screws... and doubler...

They seam to be changing the shape of the sheet metal as well...

I’m not sure what LBs use for protecting the paint... but, I don’t have the same paint wear issue with my M20R...

See if @M20Doc is around... he may have seen this before...

Skip is right, a few strips of Teflon anti chafe tape is the solution.
