Noticed these tucked into the nacelles on both sides of my 310.

@EricJ are these things snake oil?

The FAA doesn't like the company and in theory wants them removed, but technically not required because they predate the cease and desist.

What say you guys?

There was a period of time when Ameriking failed to operate properly...

A company that couldn’t provide documents the way the FAA had approved...

So... if your equipment is before the cut-off date... the company was still in compliance...

After the date... the equipment might be OK, but the company was unable to prove it...

PP thoughts only, not a compliance engineer...

I am Erik ing all the time.

Erik-ing never fails to operate properly...  :)

I once saw a pharma company fail to operate properly... the FDA took notice...

To allow production of their products, they had to follow a long legal procedure known as... Consent Decree...

A complete review and update of how they operate, and the QC system that goes with it... overseen by an agreed upon third party consultant...

It took a couple of years and hundreds of millions to get out from under the mess they created for themselves...

They became lean and mean, and inevitably sold themselves to a better management group...

Sooo... if you ever find yourself saying we have always done it this way...  we know better, because we have been in the business for decades...  these are subtle hints that time may have passed you by...  you just told yourself, and the person you were talking to...

:)

Not sure what that is?   If that's supposed to be an RFI filter it may be there to try to keep alternator or ignition noise out of something (the DC supply?).   Hard to say without more info.

Reading the label... there are boxes where one should get a check Mark...

Unfortunately, I don’t see one...

Searching through the web... AK-950

Surprise... everything made by Ameriking shares the same ID... :)

https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/34145537/installation-and-operation-manual-model-ak-950-ameri-kingcom

I can see where/how they ran into challenges with this one...

RFI filter... (probably)

Annuciator panel with the same ID numbers... (really odd...)

They had one label that went on everything...(?).

Looks like somebody at the factory called in sick that day...   the person with the sharpie...  :)

Sorry, it was supposed to be in the title.  It's a DC RFI filter.  There's one on both alternators.  AK-950-FTR.

I'm just wondering if it's worth leaving them or... Just leave them alone.

They're usually there to keep noise out of the DC supply, which can then get in anything that is powered by it.   It's good to have clean DC power to electronics, so without a reason to take them out I'd leave them be.

If not specifically called out to toss out...

They can stay...

What they do... is remove noise that gets induced into the electric system...

Typical noise from an alternator can be whine and other rpm dependent sounds that can be heard coming through your audio panel...

If you are getting no whine or other odd sounds in your audio... they seam to be working as expected...

Lets see if @bmcconnaha is around... he is in the avionics business... he might know... or know somebody who knows...   :)

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...
