anybody have this combo? or am I better off with the JPI900?  picture attached with current setup.

Plans:

PSeng 450b audio panel

Aspen 2500

Jpi 900/930

slimmer com radio in center stack than the kx155, move the NGT to the stack

panel mount an ipad mini with a guardian flight mount on the right side.

OR...

wait for the dynon setup.  I prefer most of what the aspen offers compared to the dynon, with the exception of the autopilot that will be out shortly for an aspen.

G3X not an option.  (already have an IFD550.  prefer that over the 750. AND, we aren't garmin dealers.  Would like to stay with brands we offer)

Thoughts?

Here we go. It is tight but it fits.

thanks for the photo.  I was hoping to center the middle screen above the yoke.  appears if i do that I will have to go with the 900 portrait mounted as you did.

yes, they will fit but the JPI will have to be long side up using the existing holes in the panel.

You might get it in long side across but you will have to cut the panel hole for the JPI more to the right and you will loose that space near the center stack.

An Aspen 2500 set up would be very nice along side your retained equipment (IFD550, JPI...)  I wonder if anyone has installed the Bendix King AeroVue touch?  I understand it interfaces with the IFDs and will be integrating engine monitoring at some in the future.   I agree with you that the IFD product is a great all around product for most GA panels.  I have the IFD540 over IFD440 and am having the same debate as you on updating my primary flight instruments...

we have access to BK stuff. i was thinking of going that route, but the new BK230 is STCd as replacement only for the KAP150/200.  I am almost certain the aerovue touch wont drive my autopilot (century 2000)

Even though the products they have are great, If Aspen would come out with a single 10+ inch display that used their canister approach that would slide into a standard 6 pack panel, then that would be very appealing!  Until then, I may go with the Aspen Pro Max 1000 or possibly with two G5s (with the two G5s, I could add the GFC 500 and I believe I’d have all I ever need).

Some people really like the large format 930...

Enough that it may go on the co pilot side... with a Remote access(?) Display (RAD)?

MP and RPM and a warning light are in front of the pilot this way...

The EI MVP50 is very similar... often preferred... Has a customer service guy that is an MSer...

For JPI questions we always ask Jeev... he sells enough of these things, he knows them well and he can get detailed answers form the company quickly...

The JPI 900 is the most common certified primary instrument around MS... the display area is limited, so page switching may be required to see everything...

PP thoughts only...

Best regards,

You must have forgot I work for chase at avionics source. I’m very familiar with both EI and JPI.

You have to help the memory impaired.... :)

Put a reminder for me on what is called your signature line. (Somewhere in the avatar data fields)

Thanks... I got a good laugh... I know I can do better... :)

I was trying to not show some accidental preference...

I like both brands a lot. I’ve read of EI having issues with the electronic ignition I’m putting in with the 390. Ultimately it can be figured out, but apparently takes a little trial and error. And IMHO, a fresh engine isn’t the best time to sort out a tachometer issue. I fly with a JPI, mainly because I had several before I got into avionics. I’m mainly curious about the physical fit in the left side of the panel with the aspen 2500 with a 930. If it won’t fit I’d be perfectly happy with a 900. I’m hoping to get with Greg at baker avionics this week to get his thoughts.
On another note, I’ll have to figure this signature out. I’d like to add a few things to that including the map of the states I’ve flown to.

On a taller M20M panel for sure it will fit - width should be the same though.

The 930 is plenty readable over on the copilot side.  I’d rather have a 930 on the right than stuffing a 900 into too small a space on the left.  If there’s enough room on the left to fit a 900 comfortably, that’s a nice option.E80465CB-ACAF-4482-9584-CE44B11B4D47.thumb.jpeg.02a27bee2e8a7f0bcaf631e1e9a32c1c.jpeg

Here's my latest iteration for a Mooney panel. I'm trying to perfect a 3/4 panel much like the later model Mooneys, along with a ne 1/4 panel for the breakers.

G500, GI-275 and EDM900.  The vertical green lines are for 'radiorax' and there is space for an iPad on the copilots side (still debating).

Nowadays its quite feasible to get all your radios in a single column.  So I see no reason why one couldn't shift the radios over an inch or two.  There is a limitation in the GTN manual on how far the GTN can be form the PFD.

Structurally, the M20K has a bar all the way across the lower edge, and then rather flimsy mounting points across the top edge.  Unlike the later models that had a bar across the top edge.
