Mcstealth Posted February 3, 2019 Report Posted February 3, 2019 I guess I should know this, but why is the max gross weight and takeoff weight 12 lb different? I guess this is on all long bodies? Is there something very specific for this? Quote
kpaul Posted February 4, 2019 Report Posted February 4, 2019 The 12lbs is the amount of fuel you burn from start up to take off ~2gal. Quote
Mcstealth Posted February 4, 2019 Author Report Posted February 4, 2019 (edited) Maybe I should ask this in a different manner. Why can't a Mooney legally take off at Max gross? Edited February 4, 2019 by Mcstealth Quote

Why can't a Mooney legally take off at Max gross? It most certainly can take off at max gross weight, but I am a bit confused since the POH's (from memory) will refer to a maximum ramp weight which is 8-12 lbs more than max gross weight which enables you to taxi to the runway a bit overweight in order to takeoff at max gross weight. ArtVandelay Posted February 4, 2019 Report Posted February 4, 2019 Mooneys are useful load challenged, so factory was just maximizing it, every pound helps.Tom Quote

Hank Posted February 5, 2019 Report Posted February 5, 2019 And here I just thought it was to make the "personal airliner" more airline-like . . . . . Quote

carusoam Posted February 7, 2019 Report Posted February 7, 2019 When the O gets filled to MGTW... expect to burn an hour of fuel to be below MGLW.... This is a standard based on leg strength.... If you have awesome pilot skills, landing on a smooth runway, your leg strength probably won’t be challenged... Expect stalling 10’ above the runway to be a bad idea... at MGTW.... The other things that change with weight should be taken into consideration... stall speeds and landing speeds will be greater.... PP thoughts only, not a CFI... Best regards, -a- Quote
