Really surprised this isn’t getting any comments, the DRX is dirt cheap, almost not worth messing with the Raspberry Pi

$395 is dirt cheap? Dirt must be expensive in your part of the world.
By comparison the Pi solution would be around $115.

The DRX is about 2 years late to market.  For the CB they already have built or had someone build them a Stratux (you do know you can get them already assembled).  So when I read the announcement I said "oh that's nice, what's the point?"  Besides you would hate to buy it open it up and find a Raspberry PI inside and believe that you spent and extra $300 for a blue box.

Apple I get, never did understand the attraction to ForeFlight. I just don't think it is that good and it ain't cheap.

D3 is intriguing as a last ditch backup AI, especially if there's not a lot of redundancy in your panel.  The ADS-B receiver not so much.  It doesn't advertise GPS or AHRS, and I'd really want both those features in any receiver.  I'm interested enough in reliable AHRS that I'm seriously considering spending the money for a Stratus 3 even though I have a Stratus (the AHRS just doesn't work well enough for me to trust it.)

I checked out the D3 when there.  It’s great except it has no aviation database or obstacle database.  If I didn’t have a GTX345 to feed a Garmin 660, id consider it.

Its considerably less than a G5, L3, and more.

I plan to trade my Aera 560 in for a 660 today and with the Garmin rebate of $50 spend around $150 for the delta (plus a new air gizmo dock - plus install) for backup AHRS in the cockpit with synthetic vision - signal will come from my GTX345.  Also, I get 7 year newer technology AND new databases.

The only downside to the Aera vs the D3 is depending on ship's power for AHRS. If you lose your panel, the Aera is powered, but you've lost your backup attitude reference.

I think he was just saying he could sell the 560 for 200 less than the cost of a 660, and get the delta down to 150 with the mfr rebate. 

I'd give Garmin my 560 plus 150 bucks in a heartbeat if they had that deal going :)

I pulled the trigger on Sunday in the Aera 660 swap.

I flew Sunday afternoon back in a friend’s 201 from dropping my airplane off at annual and he just so happened to have a 660 in his panel.  

Compared to 7 years of flying with the 560 I’m thrilled with my decision and very happy with the functionality.  I played with it for about 10 min in flight.  

Can’t wait to install mine.

Im still using my aera 510 for my XM receiver since I am able to get XM marine weather on it for $9.95 a month.  Marine weather shows me everything I need, including all airport TAS, metars, xrad etc. (And I have adsb weather but I like both because sometimes I can't get adsb weather).  I suspect that if I went to a aera 660 I would be forced to get the more expensive monthly subscription for XM aviation weather.

I know - I like XM better too. And I also have the 9.99 marine sky watch program.  However, I’m not buying the new XM receiver the 660 uses so I’m going to go 100% ADSB weather in the air and use my iPhone on the ground.  

I’ve flown with  both the last seven months and the purpose of XM and ADSB weather is to avoid the big bad nasty weather.  Use your mark I eyeballs the most you can.
