jaylw314 Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 Is that a Mustang? never seen one before? Quote
EricJ Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 There's one at Stellar Airpark here in the Phoenix area, but it's cowl has been off forever and I don't think it's airworthy. Apparently engine problems are not unusual and are expensive. Quote
carusoam Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 M22 Mustang has a kind of unique engine with a cabin pressurization system... Not easy on a CB budget without being a knowledgable mechanic. Looks like the spring nesting season has come to Kswo... Best regards, -a- Quote
Mark89114 Posted March 8, 2018 Report Posted March 8, 2018 I wonder why it has that little round window in the back?? or at least it looks like a window Quote

Some 5-10 years ago, there would be an M22 for sale on Ebay or elsewhere every now and then; not so much these days. I remember some MS member reporting a purchase of one few years ago but never seen any pictures or details of restoration, etc (he owned a shop in CO or such). Looks like a period paint job. Interesting plane, not really good looking and maintenance hog but quite a performer. Edited March 8, 2018 by Igor_U Quote
carusoam Posted March 9, 2018 Report Posted March 9, 2018 My favorite source of quick info... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooney_M22_Mustang The powerplant is similar to a Bravo’s Lycoming, but has the output similar to an Acclaim... 310hp at altitude... Best regards, -a- Quote
Mooney in Oz Posted March 9, 2018 Report Posted March 9, 2018 It makes me sad seeing a picture like this. Like someone's neglected elderly family member. Quote
Ftlausa Posted March 9, 2018 Report Posted March 9, 2018 There is only one I see for sale posted online. The pictures look old, and the equipment original. I hope there are some good examples out there that are being well cared for. Quote
Jerry Pressley Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 back in the day!!! i bought a mustang in florida and flew non-stop to cleveland, ohio. They had a great range. Mooney had the 301 on the floor in process but for some reason they bought the mustang and were going to redesign it and bring it back out. That is around the time the Frenchman was involved. Don't know what eventually happened to the M22 Quote
Raptor05121 Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 Interestingly enough, its got the wing of an M20C but a higher take-off weight than the Acclaim. It would be cool comparing the two of them. A new Continental 550 up front would be a nice STC if Mr. FAA was willing and someone had the cash Quote

Both gorgeous aircraft. Quote
CaptRJM Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 My avionics shop had 2 of them in last year, at the same time and same owner. A fellow at KSOP owns 3 of them. One in good condition, one and fair condition (the ones I saw) and the third is a parts plane. From what I understand all came from Europe. The two I saw had Swiss flags painted on the tail. Quote
bradp Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 Fugly duckling isn't it. Maybe @Sabremech can fashion a sympathy cowl for it? Quote
kris_adams Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 Would be interested in seeing video starting, taxiing, and departure. I bet it would look a lot better with the new paint scheme. Quote
rpcc Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 I kinda like it. Unfortunately someone painted it like a brady bunch couch. Pull a little lipstick on this bulldog and it would look great. Are any of these flying? 1 Quote
Sabremech Posted March 10, 2018 Report Posted March 10, 2018 I’d like to have it to play with and see what can be made better! Quote
N231BN Posted March 11, 2018 Report Posted March 11, 2018 If you like 231 speeds at 20 gph then it's the airplane for you! Quote

It just seems like a low benefit value for a window...One more hole in the pressure vessel and another window that needs to be inspected and maintained. Just an observation. Quote
jlunseth Posted March 16, 2018 Report Posted March 16, 2018 You could get yourself a vintage T Bird. Paint them the same color. Matching pair. Quote
