It’s good to chase your dreams, but when reality slaps you on the side of the head it’s also good to take a step back and rethink.

When I was a paramedic instructor we would teach them that if things aren’t going well, they need to VOMIT and FART.

Monitor (cardiac)

Transport

 

Fall back

And

Re-

Think

 

Glad he was uninjured. That’s certainly not how many were expecting the Raptor I saga to end.

Given all that was going on lots thought it would end in a smoking hole.  I like the comment that the redrive likely saved his life.  He was headed for lots more unforgiving terrain than the cornfields of Nebraska.

I thought this was a joke. I cant believe this is the new plan. Arent ducted fans better suited to high altitudes as in plus 25k. Whats the point with no pressurization?

Jets are much better at higher altitudes, the higher the better as long as they can get enough oxygen.

Ducted fans are just smaller (or cut down) props that run in a tube, which decreases losses and permits higher RPM--both make more thrust. RC jets used ducted fans with high speed piston engines before the small 3" & 4" jet engines were commercialized. They ran 20-25K RPM, compared to 4-6K for similar sized prop engines.

This should be interesting to watch, and will certainly not have the same failure mode that he just experienced!

Electric flight for anything except for a self launching glider is a silly fantasy, it’s astonishing that so many get sucked down that path. Sure it’s possible, but not enough endurance to make it practical.

If your going down the Green path, Hydrogen is possible and you can get it from electricity of course.

As with everything you can only scale up just so far before it doesn’t work.

Raptor is DEAD in my opinion. After all those years working on the plane, get it into somewhat of a flying condition, escapes death and what does he do? he goes and change Airframe Design and Powerplant to designs that have yet to be used in any certified or production experimental. Stupid to throw all the data gathered out the door and start from scratch.

The nice thing about the current situation…

We all know Peter and what is acceptable to him…

It is a track record that can’t be erased…

 

The new design has a very short wingspan…

It will have flying characteristics that won’t work for most pilots… certainly not entry level pilots…

 

Enjoy the design/build videos….  

Send only small donations… to cover the entertainment value…
