Jerry had some old/new stock for sale. I picked some up from him recently.  He may have some left.  @acpartswhse

I don't have them on my plane so I don't know what they are made out of. However, I have used this before on air mattresses and it works well, even fixed a small cut in the mattress.

Brittain Industries is out of business?

Not yet, but it's coming. The business is for sale, too. If only I was an A&P/IA . . . .

You don't need those certs to run an aviation business... As long as the IP is present and current, the worst part of buying their business will be establishing a repair station and/or manufacturing system with a PMA cert...lots of hoops, but certainly possible.

Running a Repair Station requires an IA to supervise / inspect repairs. I'm afraid that Brittain isn't big enough to hire all the work out and have any money left over for me . . . Ideal would be owner / operator / IA.

You could establish a repair station and quality system and then get a repairmen certificate without an AP and IA.  That is why many shops get a repair station, so they can hire non APs for specialized work.  In fact, in many cases and AP alone won’t cut it for instrument repairs, and many autopilot components fall under instruments.  As an example, an AP can’t do your altimeter cert, they have to be a repair station with a repairmen ticket.  I’m sure someone will find a loophole, but even as an AP I used to have to maintain my repairmen ticket to do certain work in our region.  FAA really looks for ability, training and current documents.  Might fit in nicely with your background!

I've been thinking about this. It would be a nice retirement business to keep me busy for a few years, but long term I think it has no future. It is inevitable that these low cost autopilots will be available soon with prices that make maintaining Brittan system unattractive.

As much as I loved the PC system in my old F, I would have changed it out in a second if I could have gotten a full blown autopilot for $5000 or so. And I think most people with Brittan systems will do the same thing.

Talking with a friend who is going on 8 months to STC a Skyview in his Baron.  The inefficiencies of the FAA will keep the Brittian Wing levelers Accutrac in business for a very long time. The FAA aint' changing things soon
