OR75 Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 I have 2 USB ports to charge portable devices and they work just fine. Do I have any reason to keep the cigarette lighter plug ? It is not using much space but u am down for any clutter removal . the cigarette lighter seems to be on the same fuse as the ignition thoughts ? Quote

carusoam Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 (edited) It has a couple of uses that you haven't even thought of yet... Like your wife and kids want to plug in their device that doesn't have the USB style plug. Or the ADSB device you have comes with the old style plug. Or your jumper battery thing from Kmart plugs in there. Or your old portable gps plugs in there. Or your CFI jumps in and wants to plug in his waas/ADSB device. Or that portable radio you want to plug in when the hole panel goes dark? Maybe you have all this thought out already and planned it to the end... I can't get enough plugs to service all the devices... Best regards, -a- Edited May 4, 2017 by carusoam Quote
RLCarter Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 I'd leave it, it doesn't take up much space plus you its a good power source should you need it Quote
Pritch Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 Or maybe you are Vernon from Waco and want to light up the cigarette. Quote
HRM Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 You can always use a couple of USB ports and easy to switch back to a power port when needed. Quote
Browncbr1 Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 I would definitely get it on its own breaker though. I had a loose cigarette lighter short out on me once while on taxi. Positive and negative sides of the receptical arc welded to each other. If that had been on the ignition circuit in the air... Yikes. Quote
N252WD Posted May 6, 2017 Report Posted May 6, 2017 (edited) I carry a portable air pump in my plane to air up my tires, and have had to use it before. Makes it nice to have that plug for those 'just in case' places. Edited May 6, 2017 by N252WD 1 Quote
