Mooney Ambassador Events OH, IN, KY, MI, WV, PA?

Recommended Posts

I am checking to see if there's an opportunity to host a Mooney Ambassador event at KOSU's airport day and Sporty's Open House in Clermont County.  OSU has not done an open house the last two years, but they've been well attended when they do by the public and they've welcomed us if they do one this year.  Waiting to hear from Sporty's...

It sounds like the West Coast and Canada are very active with Mooney Ambassadors.  Do we have any Mooney flyers here in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, West Virginia, Pennsylvania or other nearby states that would participate if we can find a few appropriate events?  Any other ideas for events that might be good for us to pursue?

Hello all

This is the perfect time to think about an event that you would like to attend. Perhaps an airport day, AOPA/EAA fly-In or open house.  Consider whether we would have access to the flying and non flying public, then contact the event administration.

Here is what I do...  I contact the event administration and tell them I am with the Mooney Ambassadors, we are an all volunteer service group that promotes general aviation.  We would like to know if we can bring some airplanes to your event and park together.  We have been highlighted recently by AOPA and as well presented a workshop at AirVenture.  Most likely we have owners who would be willing to do a flight demonstration with a low-pass.  We have detailed information for announcers or radio interviewers. Our airplanes generate a lot of interest.  We have the possibility of a children's activity. Many of our aircraft could be open for folks to get in with the owner.  I let them know that our best location is when we have access to the flying and non-flying public.  I do mention that we have Ambassadors all across the United States and Canada, and even in parts of Europe and Australia.

For you: It might be handy to watch the youtube video on staging an event:

If you decide on an event, let us know and we will send a point person packet to you with all our Ambassador goodies to print.  We have t-shirts available if you would like to buy them.  Of course we will advertise the new event on the website, facebook page and in the MAPA Log.

Sporty's replied via email saying they were sorry they couldn't host due to limited ramp space unfortunately.  Thank you for the additional ideas Cruiser.  I fly into Mansfield, Put-In Bay and KPCW (for Phil's Inn Spaghetti!) a few times each year and those are all good ideas for locations.  Do you know if they have airport or flying events that draw the public to those each year?  If so, I can reach out to their airport directors to try to get something going with them.

And thank you Barry.  WV has some beautiful airports, CRW is a fun one to fly into as well.  Do you know if any of them do airport days/aviation celebrations?  If so, I can reach out to them as well.

I'm starting a file to track interest in these.  If you are on here regularly, I will post on here what I'm finding as I check these out, but if you're not and you want to send me your email address in a PM for privacy if concerned about that, I can add that info and make sure to email you too as I find info on these.  I hope we can get an active group of us here in the OH, KY, IN, MI, WV and PA area to start promoting Mooney at events like what we're seeing others do in the west and Canada.  Sounds like it would be a great time for all of us instead of having to wait all the way to Oshkosh to mingle with our fellow Mooney addicts!

Jim--

I'm about 45 minutes due south of CMH, right on the WV line. If anything is going on in the area, let me know! KHTW is pretty small but we manage to have a Community Day every year. I haven't heard the dates this year, but expect it to be in June. Over the years, it has morphed from a Fly-In to more of a "Take People to Ride" day, but visitors are always welcome by car and by plane. We sometimes make it up to Bolton Field for barbecue at JP's, but that would hardly justify cranking your J.

Add me to your "interested" file, and let's stay in touch.

Hi Jim.

Sporty's event appears to be a trade show type fly-in.  I can certainly understand their position for not being able to support the Ambassador concept.  Awesone for asking though, way to go.

Thank you all for looking for other airport events, airport days, etc. throughout your communities where the public comes out to see airplanes.   This is great!

Thank you, Hank and I've added you to the list.  I spent high school in Winfield, so know Huntington well.  Loved living there for those 4 years, all of the others were as an army brat moving around all over.  JPs is definitely worth cranking the engine for their bbq!  Just have to get a few approaches in along the way to help justify it.  :)

And thank you for the note Mitch!  Hopefully we can get this area active and show the public why we're so nuts about these beautiful aircraft!  I agree on the Sporty's comment.  It's a great event and they do bring in vendors.  I'd think they should have at least been able to allow us a couple of near enough blocked off parking spaces to put us together.  Oh well, I'm sure we'll find other good venues around here.  Have a great Friday!

Jim--

Once we get a little closer, I'll let you know. I've been on the planning committee for the last couple, but the weather this week cancelled the Jan. Pilot's Assn. meeting. It's getting close enough that we need to at least pick a date pretty soon.

We have contacted the event administration.... if they are in the affirmative, anyone out there interested in attending the Quad-City Airshow in Eldridge, IA? June 18, 19th. I do have an Ambassador who can work the booth/children's activity.

Again, we don't have a "yes" yet... but need to know if there is interest.

MRB has an airshow every year held by the Nat'l Guard toward the end of summer. They close the airport Fri -> Sun. Might be able to get into participate.

If anyone would like the "email" packet I send to prospective airshows, please let me know.  We just heard back from Quad City Iowa and it is a "go"!

The airport is Davenport Municipal-KDVN.  Sounds like a great show with the Blue Angels and "Fat Albert"-C130

We have five spots and one is already reserved. Let me know if you would like a space.

KDVN may be a little far for me for an out and back from Ohio, but sounds like a great opportunity.  Any others from Iowa or neighboring states that would be up for that one?

I've also contacted the Indianapolis Airshow which is May 13th-15th at Mt Comfort Airport in Indianapolis.  That's a good sized event with participation by the Blue Angels and others.  I also contacted Martinsburg, WV's Thunder Over The BlueRidge which is put on by the 167th Airlift Wing as suggested by Barry and that one is September 17th-18th.

We're bound to get some hits out of some of these.  Thank you for everyone's ideas and I'll be glad to contact as many as I can to see where we can find opportunities to show our great aircraft and promote GA.  This could make for a very fun flying season for us this year!

That will teach me not to see how I was logged in....Sorry to Mooney Ambassador Alan Higgins who hosted a great event in Colorado last year....

We have three Mooneys coming to Quad-City. If response is greater than the five I projected, I will contact Ken Hooper the president/air boss. He has hours in a 201 and 231!

That's great news Jolie!  I've been a little jealous seeing all of the events being posted out west and wondering why we were not seeing more in the midwest.  Glad to see those spots fill up so quickly and hopefully we'll have more opportunities identified and confirmed here in this area soon!

I need to get an update on how many airplanes are coming to Quad-City.

Thank you

I am bumping this topic.  We have one of four airplanes confirmed.  If you can come display that would be awesome.  Please let me know.

Rebecca Meeke worked at Mooney for four years.  Here is what she says about Mooney: "I worked for Mooney in the accounting office from Jan 2004 - Nov 2008. Loved every minute there, hearing the planes, watching the assembly of the planes, you name it. Praying this economy turns it around."

Rebecca has been a Mooney Ambassador since day one, even though she is not a pilot or owner.  She suggested the Quad-City Airshow as a perfect venue for the Ambassadors to display.
In talking with Ken, the Airboss, who has a couple hundred hours in Mooneys, he agreed.  We have four spots available for aircraft. Rebecca is bringing the canopy, table, chairs and a children's activity.  We have ONE Mooney to display with her.

If you are able to attend and display your airplane, that would be awesome. The event draws nearly 50,000 guests.  Here are the details and email me privately if you can come. I also have an Ambassador in Witchita looking to hitch a ride and share expenses.
