bradp Posted April 3, 2017 Report Posted April 3, 2017 Got my hands on a sailrite portable walking foot. This is now my third machine and first walking foot. Practiced my top stitching using some techniques learned from the sailrite videos- pretty good result and ready to put it to use for the leather glareshield cover. 1 Quote
cliffy Posted April 3, 2017 Author Report Posted April 3, 2017 Not bad on the stitching I just got my extra idler pulley in so I'll be working on my speed reducer this week. 1 Quote

What do you want to do the glare shield on my E? Quote
cliffy Posted April 4, 2017 Author Report Posted April 4, 2017 M- Do you have any idea how much the male "seamstresses" make here at Lake Powell doing boat interiors? Just my sidewalls will save me better than $1,000. And, they are easy. :-) 1 Quote

bradp Posted April 12, 2017 Report Posted April 12, 2017 Not sure if I should put this here or somewhere else but got to finishing the stitching for the glareshield cover. Here's probably good (the upholstery forum). 2 Quote
cliffy Posted April 12, 2017 Author Report Posted April 12, 2017 Nice! I got the double reduction working and came across another little issue with the China clone machine. Its a challenge but interesting. Had a glob of iron casting inside the cover that was dragging on one of the moving parts causing a hard to turn issue. I'll grind it off tomorrow and see how things go. Still having fun with the project even with the machine issues. As I said its a challenge . I'll post some pics maybe tomorrow. Quote
carusoam Posted April 12, 2017 Report Posted April 12, 2017 Every stitch lands in exactly the right place. That's precision! Things a good surgeon does for fun on the days off? Quote
autoalain Posted April 14, 2017 Report Posted April 14, 2017 Hi, bought real leather from a suppler to aircraft, they supplied me with a 'burn rate' to keep my AME happy, he did not even bother to care, signed off no problem. did seats and side trim, wish I had A/C gets a little hot. Mike www.cahc-ccpa.com a few other planes I did the interior for a musuem where I work. Quote

bradp Posted April 20, 2017 Report Posted April 20, 2017 Got most of the glare shield done. It's hardly perfect but such an improvement. Will hopefully finish it tonight and post a picture once installed. 2 Quote
Marauder Posted April 21, 2017 Report Posted April 21, 2017 Got it mostly installed today- You need to bring your sewing machine to a Mooney fly in and show us how to do this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Quote
cliffy Posted April 26, 2017 Author Report Posted April 26, 2017 Back home and back to working on the interior. I'll try to get pics of the double reduction gear I made posted later today if I can figure how to do it. Quote
cliffy Posted April 30, 2017 Author Report Posted April 30, 2017 So I'm back among the living after being out of state for a couple of weeks. Got the double reduction gearing done and it works good. I can go stitch by stitch if I want now, The lighter colored wheel was the original going to the motor pulley. Now it goes to another identical pulley (straight from Sailrite) and then to the motor. I can adjust the motor belt tension by spacing the motor away from the machine with washers. It was a fun engineering project. Next is to pull the seats and then do the sidewalls. 3 Quote
bradp Posted May 1, 2017 Report Posted May 1, 2017 Cliffy that's really cool. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
LOCOLJ Posted May 4, 2017 Report Posted May 4, 2017 Wow, nice addition. As I look at your machine it appears almost identical to my consew 206r, how is the torque now any improvement? Quote
cliffy Posted May 4, 2017 Author Report Posted May 4, 2017 I get a better control of the slow speed torque now. Torque probably doubled and its controllable now. Quote
Browncbr1 Posted June 8, 2017 Report Posted June 8, 2017 @Yetti @cliffy @bradp Hey guys, is there a consensus on which walking foot machine is best? I saw the chinese clones were thrown out and having problems in some cases... Quote
cliffy Posted June 8, 2017 Author Report Posted June 8, 2017 If you want good one, a Sailrite is real good but starts at about $700 and goes up from there. There are lots of commercial walking foot machines on the used market that if reconditioned correctly are real good also. Still Sailrite is hard to beat. My clone has had a couple of problems that I was able to "fix" only because I can, but it works well now. 1 Quote
Yetti Posted June 8, 2017 Report Posted June 8, 2017 I am still a lowly old school White. with no walking foot I picked up a Singer 404 slant needle. It sucks for heavy stuff. Going to be sold. I have been several minutes late to several walking foots at Estate sales. One day 1 Quote
