Tony Armour Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 Everyone has their mission and their own perfect airplane/Mooney. I love them all (Mooney's) but even after 11 years with my TLS (7 with a 201) I still end flights with a huge smile on my face Really just a typical flight in my bird, did have a five knot tailwind (I'll take it) This was coming home from the Mooney Summit (GREAT time btw) whoever coined the words "magic carpet" (Coy Jacobs? :-) ) got it right ! I see a Mooney on the ramp and I might as well be looking at a leggy blond. I smile. They look fast just sitting still ! I know I'm preaching to the choir LOL 2 Quote
Bravoman Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 I'm a believer. Flew from Kgyy( Gary/Chicago) to Kslk ( Saranac lake/Adirondack regional, N.Y.) today in a little over 3 Hrs, including an ILS approach. Tough to beat! 1 Quote

Something isn't right...a fuel burn of 18 gph /1600 ...mp should be higher I think ..say 30 "...are you sure your TIT probe is correct? Quote

My previous Bravo at 30", 2400 RPM & 1600 TIT was 19.4 GPH so 18 GPH at 27" seems reasonable. Quote
thinwing Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 Hm...maybe...If I am pushing ..32,2400 ,1550...19.8 ..next time I'm in a decent ..at 27 in Id expect a lower fuel burn than 18... Quote
carqwik Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 Using the same settings (27" 2400 rpm) I get even a lower fuel burn (~17 gph) at 1600 TIT which is about 75-100 ROP. However, at 15k, I am only getting about 190 kts. At 30"/2400 RPM, I start out at over 19 gph but by the third hour the fuel burn is down to 18 gph...sometimes even a little less. Quote
FlyDave Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 For reference, I run my plane as follows: 29/2400, 18.5 gph, 1,600 TIT, ~200 KTAS @ 17,500' 26/2400, 16.5 gph, 1,600 TIT, ~190 KTAS @ 17,500' My JPI probe has always read ~100 dF higher than the stock analog probe. I use the JPI as primary and check it against the stock. I think my TIT probe has ~600 hours on it. Does anyone change their TIT probe at certain intervals? Quote

My ships TiT and the edm700 read almost exactly the same. 18 gph is actually a little low for me, maybe I'm usually running 27.5 or 28 inches..... Tend to run a little more power in a head wind and it seems like a headwind always flows a touch more gph than a tail wind for some reason. Another thing mine has done since last annual is seem to flow a little less. I always used to be at 19.5 to 20gph, probably 27.5 or 28" always 2400rpm. I'm not sure if the points have worn a little or at annual we changed to all fine wire plugs, mine normal type plugs were worn and these fine wire were free. Quote
FlyDave Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 Tony, I put fine wires in my plane 150 hours ago and had no change in FF. The biggest change I noticed with the fine wires was little to no fowling of the lower plugs. I change my oil at ~25 hour intervals and some of the massives would be caked with lead. If I didn't clean them at every oil change it would get hard to start and run rough on the ground. With the fine wires I get almost no lead deposits and as long as I lean aggressively it runs smooth on the ground. 2 Quote

Same here...the fine wires produced no fowling and I do lean aggressively on ground..say 11 or 12 wrist flips on the red knob 1 Quote
carqwik Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 I have Tempest massives which replaced Champion massives. Fouled a plug very early on in my ownership...when I wasn't aggressively leaning on the ground (about 15 years ago). Since then...with ground leaning, no fouled plugs since then. 1 Quote
DVA Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 At 15k or higher this gives me about 185 true. It would be ~10 knots faster without FIKI TKS, but I’ll take the low fuel burn running LOP with GAMI and Tempest Fine wires. Quote
