I am curious about the ranges in empty weights and useful loads of the F and J models out there.  The modified airplanes will probably be heavier so please let me know if yours is original or what modifications have been made.  E owners feel free to chime in as well but the numbers will be different.

Thanks for your info.

My 69F that is stock, with elec gear, and flaps with modern electronics weighs 1682#'s. My usefull load is 1057#'s. With full fuel  I can carry 673#'s of people and luggage. This will giveyou 5 1/2 hours of flying at about 142 Knots cruise. It is also for sale on Controller.com.  Also check out some pictures here on MooneySpace.

My '67F weighed 1700 lbs which returned a usefull load of 1040lbs. In the mean time, I've replaced the old 175B Kings with lighter radio's and I've removed obsolete things like the ADF and DME as well as all unneeded wiring left in the airplane over the years. I've also replaced the starter with a Skytec. My airplane has just come out of it's anual and I haven't received the new empty weight. Should be lighter than 1040lbs now, though. Payload could be creeping towards the 700lbs mark if I'm lucky.

my 1967 M20F is 1780lb empty... I really cannot explain why it is so heavy... Avionics? I have a full panel, mostly earlys 90 vintage (KNS80, GPS155xl, Collins ADF, STEC autopilot, heavy 1970s Bendix HSI with remote sensor etc), but it can't be that much can it? . Three blade Harzell prop? I think that adds about 25lb? I have the electric gear, which I believe was an option at the time. Is that heavy? Apart from the three blade it is perfectly stock, with original paint.

Otherwise I am very satisfied with the useful load, fits my needs perfectly (2 little kids and lots of luggage).

My 1967 M20F is a whopping 1800 pounds. It has some minor avionics upgrades but still has the Narco 12 and an antique ADF with wire sense antennae. These items will come out this winter and a skytech starter will go on. Other mods are electric gear and 3 blade prop. Paint was new in 1995. I'm also planning to get a new up to date weigh-in. If anybody has any good weight loss ideas, i'd like to hear them. It will likely be easier and cheaper for me to drop 30 poundsTongue out

1967 F

Empty Weight:1684lbs

Useful load: 1056lbs

Fuel Fuel Payload: 672lbs

If we'd remove the old remote compass, ADF and some other crap, we could break 700lbs for payload.

Our 1977 J weighs 1769 lbs. leaves a 971 lb useful load.  This plane has dual 170B's, aera,  KLN-89B, full VOR's, KN61 DME. etc

the plane power alternator lost a few pounds.  Also for the KR87 ADF.

We got an updated W&B after the install of the GTN750. After tossing out several old radios we picked up another 11 pounds of useful and it's now calculated at 938 for our '83 J.

Looks like I'm the winner so far. My 1990 J "AT" model is listed at 1888 BEW.  I suspect a lot of this is in the panel, as it has an MX-20, GNS 480, STEC-55 w/GPSS and Altitude Pre-select modules, PS Engineering audio panel, KLN 89B backup GPS and KX-155 backup radio. Oh, also a JPI 700, Horizon digital tach, King HSI, KT76A, modified 3" manifold pressure gauge instead of the standard dinky one one on the right side, GDL 69A in the avionics bay...all that adds up, and the weight and balance sheets are all kept current. Still, I've always wondered if somewhere along the weigh (pun intended) something got out of whack.

Good thing it's just me, my wife (sometimes) and our beach gear!

My '67 F is within a few lbs of 1700 empty. That's with a turbo and nice avionics. That's an accurate number as the aircraft was weighed about three years ago.

My F is at 1747 right now on paper. Don't know the last time it was actually weighed. My new panel job might change it a little, but I'm expecting it to be pretty much a wash.
