I have a 1989 J model, 24V. The radio cooling fan has died. Suggestions besides the factory? I was thinking LASAR, as well.  Other suggestions?

How did you know the fan had died, if you don't mind me asking? I fly a 1989 J as well. The check list calls for listening for it, but I've never been 100% certain if I'm hearing a fan or the turn coordinator, etc. All avionics function as they should, so I assume they're cool enough.

Pull the CB for turn coordinator. You should hear the fan; if you hear nothing, you need a fan. You can pull the CB for the turn coordinator, then the CB for the radio blower. You should hear a difference. Many new avionics have integrated fans. Others, like the King radios, do not. Running cool extends avionics lifespan.

Better than the cooling fans is the air vent nozzle on the passenger side. Aim the vent toward the avionics rack for real cooling. You can tell the difference by just touching the bezel on the avionics.

Even better, you get liquid cooling from the side air scoop when flying in rain.

Couldn't turn vent nozzle far enough, so I replaced bad fan w/ Cyclone 21

Check the vent collar alignment. The collar is held in place by 4 screws to the airframe side panel. Remove the screws and reinstall the collar so the nozzle can be oriented to the rack or the passenger.

When my King fan died my AP installed a Sandia muffin fan.  Brushless motor so it should last almost forever.  All you hear is the sound of the air exiting the hoses.  No motor noise at all.

You can also take your footwell eyeballs and point them upward so the outside air discharges behind the panel.
