Brandontwalker Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 Random question. I am 6'2 and fly a M20J. Overall, the plane is very comfortable for me. However, I have to sit with the seat in the rearward most position and my legs are still a bit cramped up with knees fairly close to the yoke. I have never flown right seat in a Mooney, but had a passenger with me on a flight the other day who is approximately my height/size and noticed that he had to pull the right seat up quite a bit further than mine to reach the pedals. Upon closer inspection, I noted that the right seat pedals are much further forward than the left seat pedals. Long story short, are the pedals adjustable? I would love to move the left seat pedals forward by around 2-3 inches such as on the right seat. Quote
1964-M20E Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 I am 6-2 and I have not experienced this on either my E or F model. I do fly with the seat in the rear most position and when in cruise I even slide ti back further if no one is behind me. I guess there could be some adjustment made with all the linkages that exist but I have not seen anything mentioned in the manuals. Quote
mpg Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 Wow! my uneducated guess is,,,, your plane has rudder peddle extensions, but you didnt know it. 1 Quote

I suspect that is a distinct possibility. I have never heard of such. Is the extension something that is readily identifiable from a layman's perspective and easy to remove? Quote

Brandontwalker Posted December 3, 2015 Author Report Posted December 3, 2015 Just now, M20F said: Any chance of a picture? Yeah. I'll snap one when I go past the airport this afternoon. Quote
Brandontwalker Posted December 3, 2015 Author Report Posted December 3, 2015 Okay. Found a picture on another thread. Looks like it is just an aluminum bracket that extends the mounting holes on the pedals. Simple and easy to see if that is what I have. Quote
Oldguy Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 Brandon, I am 6'5" and pull my seat up one notch and find it fits my legs comfortably. Really does sound like there are extensions down there. If so, and you remove them, they are a fairly popular item for resale. John Quote
N5756v Posted December 3, 2015 Report Posted December 3, 2015 Will the extensions fit a k , if so I might be interested Quote
Brandontwalker Posted December 3, 2015 Author Report Posted December 3, 2015 Wow! You all were right on the money again! This forum is absolutely the best resource for any Mooney owner. Looks like the 3" extensions. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Brandontwalker Posted December 3, 2015 Author Report Posted December 3, 2015 Will the extensions fit a k , if so I might be interested I'm not sure if they'll fit a K. My assumption is that they will, but cannot confirm that. Make me an offer if interested. They have to go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
N601RX Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 You will have to drill 2 holes in the top of the pedals to mount them. It might be best to just swap pedals if they are in similiar condition. They will also change the geometry of the arc as you depress the pedal. I'm 5'8" and they made things more comfortable for me and got me a comfortable distance from the yoke. Mooney also offered an option for an extra set of holes at the rear of the seat rail to allow you to get the seat back further. Quote
DonMuncy Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 When I got my plane, I found that I had to use the front-most hole in the seat to be able to use the pedals. (I'm 5' 8"). Since this puts the yoke very close and I drive my car with the seat way back, I figured I really wanted pedal extensions. After a while, I got used to the configuration, and now I wouldn't go to any expense to change them. Although I almost never have anyone in the rear seat, I suspect a back seat passenger would really appreciate my seat that far forward. Quote
N5756v Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 I will be back to my plane at the last of next week and will see if I really need them . I am 5'5 and I have not spent much time in my plane , but i am doing my check ride next wed and should be starting transition training on Thursday and will let you know if I am interested Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
Brandontwalker Posted December 4, 2015 Author Report Posted December 4, 2015 The extensions were removed this morning and it makes a vast difference. I can now move the seat into the second position from the back and it is very comfortable. I'm excited to take it for a ride to try out the new pedal position. For anyone interested, I snapped a couple of photos of the 3" extensions after they were removed. Quote
N5756v Posted December 4, 2015 Report Posted December 4, 2015 Just got off the phone with don Maxwell and he said they should interchange pretty much to all mooneys , he said the peddles are all the same Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote
