Ftlausa Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 I have had a drone fly a hundred or so feet below me while approaching PBI. I think more strikes are inevitable. My fear is that it is going to take a tragedy before real regulation occurs. I am also concerned about those that would cause an intentional strike. Think about it -- terrorists don't need to get an explosive devise ON a commercial airliner, they can position one right in front of one on a drone it its flight path. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it. 1 Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 I want regs that limit the altitude to 200' max from mfr. I want a chip in them that says who owns them and when/where they were purchased. I want laws that clearly state that if you hover over my property or areas where general public are gathered that you forfeit your UAV. There are privacy/Noise/Safety issues that need to be established in a pro-active not reactive manner on a national basis. Idiots/perverts and those that do because they can and there is no rule against it ARE the problem. Someone in the industry profiting takes a different position. Jacks surprise... Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 These are not hobbyist airplanes. These are camera equipped devices to infringe on others...IF used by someone that chooses to do so. Define. Regulate. Prosecute. Quote
Piloto Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 Just shoot them down. These drones are more of a threat than the kid at Ferguson. José Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 Just shoot them down. These drones are more of a threat than the kid at Ferguson. José Nope. I will not feed your feeble call to escallate away from topic Jose... Quote
Piloto Posted August 13, 2015 Report Posted August 13, 2015 Nope. I will not feed your feeble call to escallate away from topic Jose... Unlike Ferguson, I don't think you are going to see a mass protest of drones if you shoot one down. José 1 Quote
ryoder Posted August 13, 2015 Report Posted August 13, 2015 I know of a drone operator story but am afraid to share it. Sucks. I tried talking sense into him. Didn't work. Quote

Piloto Posted August 13, 2015 Report Posted August 13, 2015 Unlike the kamikaze terrorists of 911, now with a drone on their hands they can bring airliners down at no risk to them. The only way to prevent such a disaster is by shooting them down. José Quote
N33GG Posted August 13, 2015 Report Posted August 13, 2015 If a drone takes down an airliner, do they still get 72 virgins? Quote
Piloto Posted August 14, 2015 Report Posted August 14, 2015 If a drone takes down an airliner, do they still get 72 virgins? How 72 virgins are going to do it with a drone? Batteries don't last that long. José Quote
Yetti Posted August 14, 2015 Report Posted August 14, 2015 Since 9/11 the armed forces have a yearly how to deal with drones. The clip I saw was a helicopter with a door gunner shooting at a quadcopter. As if that would work over a populated area.... spraying the ground with a bunch of 30 cal would be a media mess. Now on the other hand they had an E-2. Which would be fine to fire up the ECM, but everyone on the ground is going to be mad about losing their cell phone coverage. I told the FSDO guy that they should do some real world tests and see what will happen. I think a strike on a mooney wing would just bounce off with some dents and scraped paint. Quote
Browncbr1 Posted August 15, 2015 Report Posted August 15, 2015 During a standard weather brief yesterday, the briefer asked me if I needed a drone brief. I said, how about a migratory bird or turkey vulture brief. She laughed and said she agreed. On that very flight, I had to turn at one point about 30degrees to avoid a vulture at 5500'. My CFI told me he had a Canadian goose come through his windshield at 10,000' and they never got the blood stains out of the cabin. Yikes!!! Quote
