Hello Mooniacs, I've decided to sell my Mooney and go back to a C182 to better meet my flying requirements. Often when we have company one adult stays behind due to weight limitations, density altitude, space, etc. Also Most of the volunteer flying I do requires more utility, space, etc. If I could afford both, that would be ideal as I love flying the Mooney and we have family in Col Springs and Elko, NV and getting there fast and cheap is nice.

I created an album labeled Patriot Mooney with the details. I will be including better panel pictures soon. If anyone knows of a clean 182 for sale between $50-$65k, let me know. A partial trade would be nice. Also suggestion on best forums to advertise would be appreciated. Tks. Tom

Well I've always said if you want to fly a sport coupe fly a Mooney if you need an SUV then a Cessna fits the bill. Good luck in the search and if I see any nice 182 will let you know. Would a 172 with the 180hp STC work ?

I love your paint job.

A C182 is a super machine.

Folks, also should mention my Mooney had a gear up landing in 1980, professionally repaired to Mooney spec's. Tks. Tom

Thanks, nice paint and new glass make it really classy, then add the overall performance and you have a nice aircraft your proud to own. I hate to see it go. Tom

"...for sale between $50-$65k..."

"Ever thought about an early 210?"

Are there 210's really in this ballpark?

The ones I've seen are more like double this but maybe the years make a big difference.

Just curious.

I think so.  But early 210s have a reputation for being more expensive to maintain.

If I were you, I'd be looking for something bigger.  Having spent time in both, I just don't think the difference between the 2 airplanes is that big of an issue  People like to say that there is, bit the differences are meager in a lot of cases. some of the older birds are lighter and do better.

You're getting 75 to 175LBS more out of a 182 but it burns more gas at a slower speed.

Your current bird is also a bit wider than a 182.

Thanks Ross. In addition to the load difference which is as much as 300lbs with the 182 stc increasing the 182 max weight from 2950 to 3100, but also less risk landing on more primitive strips with prop clearance and retract vs fixed gear. Are you referring to the cockpit as wider in a mooney. That would surprise me so will look at the POH in both. Thanks again. Tom

Trying to find a good C-182 for under 65k is tough. There are a few good early C-210s under 65k. I had a 62 C-210 before buying my Mooney. 210 was faster, roomier, and cost more to maintain and fly.

You could also look at the Cherokee 6 or Sara toga 6 place like a flying a suburban.

+1 on the toga. I have an 82 fixed gear and don't think I'll ever get rid of it. 1420 lb useful load which means full fuel and about 800 lbs payload. I flight plan for 145 knots. Handles turbulence really well and an excellent ifr platform. Pretty cheap to maintain too. Insurance probably a little more than 182 because of six seats. Probably more comparable to the 206 but I've always preferred low wing aircraft.

I think for what I need a 182 is the best option. There are some descent ones in the 50-60k range, insurance $500-600 annually, low cost to operate & maintain. Biggest hurdle could be selling the Mooney as there are a lot of aircraft on the market. A trade would make the process much simpler. Tks. Tom

I have seen old 210s going for 30 to 50. The old strut braced ones with the IO470 and smaller cabin. I sometimes want a 182RG but the old 210 is a 182RG from what I have read.

You might try Skyline Aircraft Maintenance (http://www.skylineaircraft.com/) in Nampa, ID. I know they had a Q model, I don't know the year, that they own and were rebuilding for resale. I don't believe they had a buyer. You may be able to have it built out the way you want it.  No affiliation, they just completed the annual on my J.
