When I removed the belly pan that covers the landing gear motor and various linkages right below the front seats, the little screw was lying there waiting for me to go crazy trying to find its origin. The only place I could see that looked correct was where the trim indicator cable goes thru the metal housing that moves it back and forth to show your trim position. When I tried to put the screw in the empty hole, it simply would not go. If this is the correct spot, maybe it needs the threads cleaned to allow it back to its proper location? Does anyone have another suggestion ?

Thank you,

Tim

Tim, that's a flathead screw, but the hole you've identified has no countersink. It looks like some of the screws that hold on my instrument panel cover; it may be an instrument mounting screw. Lots of little stuff can fall and roll through the floor to the belly pans.

Hank,

Isn't that screw the one that keeps the engine from falling off?

Actually I'm amazed at how little those bolts that hold the engine mount on the tubular frame structure are!

I have about a half bucket of left over parts from annuals and hanger gnomes inspections. I'm thinking about weighing the bucket and adjusting the plane's W&B. I guess l'll need to make an assumption about the moment arm.

Where does that screw go?

I put all the wayward screws in the pocket in front of the co-pilot's seat. That way when I find a screw missing, I know where to find it.

I can't tell you how many times I've been flying along and see a screw or washer or nut on the floor. I put it in the pocket. Weeks, months , years later I'll be working on something and notice a screw missing from a radio or instrument or something. I look in the pocket and Voilà! (there is) the screw!

So....your copilot has a loose screw?

Yeah, mine too.    :P

I agree, from the picture, it looks like something out of the instrument panel.

That little machine screw may be from one of the avionics trays. Perhaps dropped during a panel upgrade or repair and may have been riding around down in the floor/belly for a while. Easy to drop a screw working on your back stuffed up under the instrument panel. They'd install from inside the tray in order to attach the tray to the panel bracing and are countersunk to allow the avionics to slide into the tray. You can imagine the potential hassle to install. Representative pics attached.
