You should see what some dim-wit, who wasn't smart enough to get into medical school, and is in his dental office about 20 hours a week, charges for a little drilling in my mouth. While far from brain surgery, you could do a nice recovering job with the same money. Smile

So you're saying the sleazy place in Florida contracted with AirMod in Ohio to do the work that they installed?  AirMod in Ohio is packin' a pretty good reputation and has done quite a few of the AOPA's sweepstake airplanes because of the quality of their work. Are any of you Danes  'cause this is starting to fail the sniff test for me.

I don't know how Air Mods in Houston compares to Air Mods in Batavia, OH (Sporty's airport), but the one in Batavia would run you about that $20K and while when I refinished my last two interiors I had to go to other shops because I couldn't justify a $20K interior, Air Mods is probably one of the best in the country.  We sold a few planes done by them and I've yet to see nicer interiors.  You open the door on an aircraft they've done and you know who did the interior; they're that good!

And they don't just recover, they normally do new aluminum as well to mount the interior to.  Take a look at the photos in the link and at the Mooneys and other models.  Their cloth interiors are nicer than most leather interiors I've seen.  They're unique and I'm sure that's why AOPA has used them to redo interiors.  If I ever hit the numbers and money is no object for me, I'd have them do my Mooneys interior in a heartbeat, but for now, I go to shops that are in the $5-7K range and that's also what we expected when having airplanes refinished in prep to sell.

Hey Fantom, pardon me Sir.  I don't think I was rubbing anything in. And I sure I don't think I was caustic.  I was simply commenting on an observation.  I think you'll agree that there is too many of these disgruntled situations. Either with "experts" "selling" airplanes collecting deposits with no intent to sell an airplane, or a paint shop that was paid 10 grand and delivered no airplane with the poor owner having to go to another paint shop, or this instance when this poor fellow got  ripped off  in a major way or avionics shops performing inferior installs, etc.

My comment was that maybe we as buyers of these services are being too naive and not doing our due diligence.  Is this rubbing it in and caustic??!!  I don't think so fantom! I don't know why you feel the need to apologize.  If anyone should apologize it should be me if I offended anyone by my comments. If I did I sincerely wholeheartedly apologize!!

Now are you going to apologize about your not so funny dental jokes??!!  Smile

TIS is definitely on its way out and several cities have already dropped offline. There is a publication out there with the schedule but you'll have to search for it.

My GTN750 should be ready next week - sans remote audio and transponder. The thinking here is that should the GTN freeze up or fail (or go back to Garmin for whatever reason), that means all of the other systems are rendered inoperable. We are taking a wait and see approach to see just how reliable the new equipment is.
