After getting my #2 Nav recentered today, was speaking to my avionics guy about ADS-B.  He mentioned that L3 was coming out with a one box solution that would effectively replace the existing transponder and yet be ADS-B compliant even without having a WAAS certified GPS onboard.  Sure enough, I found a teaser from L3 about its new "Lynx" system:

Anyone know anything more about this?  This could be a much cheaper solution rather than an entire avionics panel upgrade.

Yes...for a price. UAT IN only boxes start at $2,500. Dual receiver with WAAS will cost over $5k...no matter who makes it. And what do you get for that WAAS? Only a position report. I think it is early. The Freeflight Ranger all in one box for $5k is the best bet at the present time. I haven't seen much from L3 ever for anything below a King Air, but that picture of a Skyhawk in their nomenclature is promising.

I read their promo blurb and it sounds like their all-in-one wonder box to include ADS-B IN/OUT with built-in WAAS to replace a transponder would cost about the same as an ES transponder today.  If you already have a WAAS source on board, I'm sure the price would come down.  Ditto if you already have ES.  Aspen is trying to go down a similar path.

Sounds promising.  Competition is good.  Currently I have WAAS and ES, but no "installed" traffic or weather receiver.  I would love to have something to give me ADS-B weather and traffic in my panel, but also with WiFi or BT capability to a tablet.  My preference is to have traffic on my GNS screens, but weather (and traffic too) on my tablet.  And I want it to cost less than 1 AMU too.  :D

As soon as king/trig get the tso and STC to accept Waas position from my 530W I think that is what I am going to do ...2600 retail is hard to beat .....
