I have a dual scale airspeed indicator, with MPH on the outside, I find it a bit busy, especially since I used knots, I like to replace the scale with a knots only and of course all the appropriate markings, ie like the Bravo.  Anybody ever had this done? Seems like is should be relatively easy and inexpensive

What can you do will be dictated by the POH for your plane. I had the same setup with mine. MPHs on the outer ring, knots on the inner. What I found out was that my POH had both airspeeds for all of the V speeds, etc. The avionics shop told me that I can swap the MPH for knots, but the MPH needed to stay on the gauge. Here is what mine looked like afterwards. y4e2ymab.jpg Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

My POH only has them in MPH.

I would call one of the shops that overhauls these and confirm what you can and cannot do. I used Mid-Continent to have them overhaul and redo the face. https://www.mcico.com/Default.aspx?CN=33C7B65DDE8D

I also faced a similar challenge with my Aspens. They initially wanted to use MPH but confirmed with Aspen that as long as the POH had both, I could use either. I chose knots for the same reason you want to. Everything I do is in knots.

Since the POH is in MPH a revised POH would be required for the airworthines certificate to remain valid. It is possible to revise the POH yourself but the approval process is cumbersome and sucess is unlikely. On the other hand it is unlikely to be detected except in a post crash investigation.

that looks sharp.  Who rescreened it and what did it cost?

I like the one in my plane which has the true airspeed "slide rule" which is set for temperature and presure altitude. The TAS reading is unfortunately in mph, but I know the values in knots for the important speeds in cruise. At low airspeeds and flying the plane, it is IAS that matters and that is shown in mph and knots (inner scale).

Thats what I have, but the problem I have is picking up the airspeed (knots) with a quick glance, it takes me a moment to focus on the inner dial, this is mostly a problem during landing, so I used the outer dial just for that.

I think they put numbers in mph only because it made Mooneys sound faster, it was a marketing thing, not an engineering decision.

I use the mph scale as well sometimes (75-80mph is a good landing speed for the weights I carry).

Lets us know if they are willing to just replace the face because I suspect that they may also want to do some calibration and how much they charge.  What perhaps will not be so "inexpensive" will be to remove and re-install the instrument itself.  Most shops hate to work behind the Mooney panel.  In this case I think that the instrument can only come out from below so they have to remove what is below the A/S indicator.  And the front seats to work more comfortably.
