Hello Everyone

Steve Here. Just recently found this site. What a great source of information and know how!! My M20e rec'd a total redo in '07 and is a beautiful A/C to fly. It's my third plane and while the others were great,(had a '74 Grumman AA5 and '78 Commander 112TCA) the Mooney is by far the fastest and most efficient (hence XPD-ite).

Look forward to talking with you all.

Steve:

Welcome.  Nice looking E model.  There are two other list members up in your area.  Russ Anderson has his A model just east of Edmonton at Cooking Lake and Eldon Gjesdal has a J model in Edmonton.  I also met an F model driver at the COPA AGM in PEI this summer from Red Deer (or thereabouts).

Are you keeping your bird in Springbank or elsewhere? Nice hanger BTW.

Thanks. Hopefully we can all meet at one of the Fly-ins in the area.  Russ would probably be familiar with my bird as most of the refurb was done by another pilot in the area.  He did  a super job.  The airplane doesn't need much more.  It has a low time engine, System 30 AP, Garmin stack, EI MVP-50 and an awful lot more.  I run with a BK AV80r Ace with charts, WX and TFC. but like most everyone there is always something to wish for.  As time and money allows I would like to upgrade with an Aspen EFD and possibly slightly more comfortable seats.  My Xmas list is being made up as we speak.

Hi Steve and welcome. If you are ever in the area give me a holler.

Lots of good info and great people here. Perhaps we can get you out to a Mooney Ambassador event one day too.

Excellent looking plane. I hope to get mine painted next year.

Randy in northeastern Nevada.  I have a 1979 M20J.  I have had if for just over a year.  Have been reading this site and MAPA frequently.  Plus the Vintage Mooney Group site.  I have about 850 hours TT and 75 in the 201.  I am interested in ROP and LOP discussions.  Also how to detail-tweak up, the original paint, which actually is pretty good.  Have conversed by email with Scott and possibly a few others.  Last annual I had a engine monitor put in but aside from that it has a pretty basic panel.  Look me up if in the area.  We do have a fly in at the locat airport scheduled for 9/11/10.  www.elkoskyfair.com

Hi, Eldon here, This was my 5th consecutive year in Oshkosh, and my first year meeting all the Mooney owners at OSH thanks to Moonyspace. Mooneyspace.com has been a great source of contacts and information. I am rebuilding a 77 J model and I have a lot of pictures on my avitar, more pictures to come shortly. Hoping to have my Mooney flying in a few months. I have added a lot of speed mods including a Lopresti cowl. I will also be installing a full Garmin stack and look forward to flying my Mooney to Oshkosh next year. I did own a 68 F model and also a couple of J-3's a Cherokee 180 and a Tri-Pacer. I have a soft spot for Mooney's cause they just fit good. I do appreciate all the help and comments so far.

I found/joined MooneySpace a few months ago.  I'm the proud owner of a 1985 Mooney 201 with a Missile conversion.  N211ZN is the 7th aircraft I have owned in the last 12 years.  My first aircraft was a 67' M20C that I purchased when I only had 70 hours as a private pilot.  Due to various reason/projects I strayed away from Mooney and owned a few different Cessnas.  I'm married with two children and other hobbies include travelling, scuba diving and shooting (but aviation is what I love to do the most!).  I live just north of New Orleans but I'm originally from Las Vegas, NV.

I've been "lurking" for awhile. I was born and raised in California, but I've been chasing aviation jobs around the country. I received my commercial SEL in a E model Mooney. I then rented a 231 out of KTOA in the 80's. I've owned a PA-28 140 in the and was a half owner in a '56 C-310. Currently living in Orlando, FL. Renting ttill I define my mission. I'm not quite sure my wife likes GA. My full time job is driving a MD-11 for a charter airline.

Hey everyone,

I'm a new Mooney owner as of Oct 2010.  I never thought I wanted a Mooney but one came up for sale locally that I couldn't pass up.  As it turns out, it fits my mission perfectly.  I'm 33, a small business owner, recently married, no kids yet, and the wife likes to travel by airplane.

The airplane:  A 1969 M20C, 2500hr TT, 500hr 0 time Lycoming, original P & I, GMA 340, GNS 530W, KX155, GTX 237, Stec 30a.

I also own a 1946 Ercoupe that I have had for nearly 10yeas and 1000hrs of fun (slow) flying.  I hold a CFI certificate, but I don't do much instructing anymore.  I have enjoyed reading this forum and look forward to meeting other members in the future.  I will be flying the Mooney and the Ercoupe to Airventure this year!

Hello everyone. My name is Dale Alan Bruschi, I am 55 and I am an attorney in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  I got my private pilots license in 1974 and my instrument rating in 1977.  I have just over 3000 hours of flying time and most of that time is in a Mooney M20E.  My father was a pilot and he owned a farming business and he bought our M20E (N5817Q) in 1967 so he could use it to pick up machine parts and fly to different parts of the farm.  We kept the Mooney on a grass strip on the farm in a hanger.  I started flying N5817Q not long after I got my private license and my father worked with me on the short, soft field landings in our Mooney.  Some of the grass fields we flew it in and out of were pretty challenging.  I flew N5817Q all over the United States until 1998 when my father passed away.  That year I sold the plane to our mechanic who did the annuals on our Mooney for the entire time we had it, he loved that plane as much as we did and I knew it would have a good home.  Over the years I only flew a little bit here and there, but as the years passed I wanted to find another Mooney and start flying more regularly.  I have been and will always be a Mooney pilot.  I think the design is one of the most beautiful whether it is sitting on the ground or in the air.  Sometimes Mooney airplanes remind me of working art work.  I always have to stop and look at the Mooney when I see one in the air or parked on the ramp.

This year I found a Mooney M20K 262 (N5810Q).  When I saw the plane, and that tail number, I knew this was the plane for me.  Mooney N5810Q has the trophy 262 mod done and has a relatively new leather interior and paint.  N5810Q also got a new zero time MB engine this year and has a garmin 430, 480 and MX20 installed along with a KFC 150 autopilot with altitude preselect and an EI engine analyzer.  I have really enjoyed flying N5810Q and I now use the plane to fly to trips for cases in Orlando, Tampa and in the Florida pan handle.  My wife loves to fly and she is working on her private rating this summer.   We have a small home in western North Carolina and we have started to take our Mooney to our place up north.  The 3 hour flight sure beats the 14 hour drive.  I really enjoy this website and all the wonderful comments and advice everyone posts.  I have also really enjoyed looking at all the wonderful photos.

Hello all,

My name is Randy and I am the current owner and care taker of N374SM, a 1984 M20J, for just over a year now. I live in Boise, the Mooney is based in Nampa (KMAN), and I am working in Seattle. Due to work I have not been able to build a lot of time in my plane. This July I was able to bring the plane over to the Seattle area (Arlington, KAWO). It has been great flying the San Juan's and surrounding areas for those $100 hamburgers.  For the small amount of flying I have done in Western Washington I can see IFR training coming soon. I am looking forward to learning a lot from you all.

Thanks.

Hello,

I’m an active duty Marine out here in California. I am not a Marine Pilot just a private pilot. I recently got my complex sign-off from a Marine pilot with a M20J. After flying his plane I am addicted to mooneys. I am currently trying to buy my first plane (of course a mooney). I have already rejected a 76 M20C due to horrible compressions (<50 on 2 of 4) and undocumented structural damage that had been repaired but was substantial. Looking at a 68 M20F next week, wish me luck. I enjoy this site as I am always seeking knowledge on flying. You can never have too much knowledge. I plan on working on my IFR after I find the right plane. I look forward to conversing with all of you and with luck will have my own plane and experiences to share soon.

Congratulations, Gunny! You will find the Mooney to be as good of an instrument platform as it is fun to fly VFR. Just finished up my IFR last spring--it really opens up the potential of the airplane. I strongly recommend searching for George Perry's lengthy post(s) about buying a vintage Mooney, what to look for, what to avoid, and a pretty good list of what can go right and wrong. Happy hunting!

After a few months of lurking, it's time to introduce myself I guess. I am an active duty Air Force C-130 Loadmaster. So another miltary mooney fan. I am returning from this deployment in a few weeks and am looking forward to buying a plane when I get home. I have been keeping an eye on what's on the market for the last few months. Luckily I don't need new paint, interior, IFR GPS or anything fancy. The simpler the better. Just a good basic Instrument/Commercial trainier with very occational 700mile trips home. There seems to be plenty of options available in my price range, mostly Es, but a couple of F models show up every now and then. I look forward to getting to go see some of these planes in person. When I get home you will see a lot more post from me. I will need some pre buy refrences I am sure. It seems like there are enough people here spread out across the country, that every plane for sale is right on someones homefield. So hopefully I'll get to meet some of you. I would like to go to the annual convention in October. It's not a far drive for me, but I am hoping to be flying it.

that and some kind of terrain mapping GPS..

Hey Randy,

Glad you're going for your instrument rating.  I think it's a necessity where you are located.

Thanks Parker and Jetdriven. My panel mounted GNS 480 doesn't help with terrain but my portable 496 does provide some additional situational awareness. The two were a comfortable combination returning to Arlington this weekend. I am always looking for one more justification to upgrade to a more capable GPS.

Thanks,
