I recently bought a Beech Debonair and have found out there are lots of differences between their engines. I have a Lycoming IO-360-a3b6 on the Mooney and a Continental IO470-k on the Deb. The first thing I learned was the starting method was different. The Deb requires the throttle advanced about half way before hitting the boost pump, the Mooney doesn't need that. The engine temps seem hotter on the Deb. The EGT's peak over 1500 degrees versus much lower on the Mooney. The Deb doesn't like LOP as well as the Mooney and the fuel flow is much higher. I just got back from a flight in the Mooney, pulled back the throttle to 20 inches (at 4500 msl) and burned 7.5 gph. I still got over 150 mph. Recently flew the Deb around 20 inches and burned over 12 gph (didn't try LOP). Anyway both planes are great to fly. It seems that landing the Deb was easier. BTW the Deb has 225 hp and the mooney has 200.

I put the throttle in all the way in both when I prime before start , The Cont is much easier to start hot , The Cont can run Autogas , The mooney can not , The Deb is much easier to fly and Land....

These engines are entirely different animals, Skybrd!

The Lycoming in your Mooney uses Bendix RSA Fuel Injection, which is a total use system (there is no return line to the tank).  This is why she will flood so easy hot starting if you even think about giving her fuel.

Your Deb's Continental uses a Continental Fuel Injection system, which has a return line back to the (most likely left main) fuel tank.  You need to have the mixture and throttle forward to purge the warm fuel from the system prior to making a hot start, but after doing this you should be able to start her with the throttle cracked and the mixture at ICO, moving the mixture in when she catches (although some start fine just leaving the mixture in).

Your Mooney is hands-down more efficient, and the Debbie doesn't have any leg room, but they are both fine airplanes.  And yes - the Debbie will almost land herself :)
