I own one, had it replaced within a month, not consistent and unreliable. Still had to go to the airport the night before to turn on the engine warmer. Also has very confusing instructions but not insurmountable. Many styles seem to be sold on the internet. Also T Mobile is the provider of choice so make sure you get a GREAT reception at your hanger. Mine was decent but still intermittent. For me, I don't fly airplanes for chance. Reliability must be 100%!

Has anybody here on MS given this company a shot yet? The price looks to be about half of what the two profiled on AOPA look to be although they come out of Europe and are only GSM network compatible which is fine by me. http://www.gsm-auto.com/
This gizmo looks a lot like the one that Phillip is selling as the Switchbox...

Rocketman,

Can you provide more information on the reliability issue?

Did you call the device to activate it or did you use a text command or? A voice call has no feedback. The text commands appear to return a confirmation text.

Regards,

I am working on a device currently.  It is in the final stage of development/assembly.  It can be activated by cell phone or by text message, is AC powered (or there is another version which can be 9V powered) and can carry 30 amp of power on 1 of the 2 switched circuits.

The unit does require some configuration, assembly and wiring.  It has been reliable.  If people are interested, perhaps I can get a batch of the assembled.  Please e-mail me at johnabreda@yahoo.com if interested.

Thanks,

John Breda

Yeah, the concepts are the same for all the competitor products. Ours is not a GSM-Auto device and has a custom circuit and power supply.

You can read the article from Aviation Consumer this month where they reviewed all the competition, and recommended ours.

An important thing to note, is the bottle neck of POWER HANDLING on all the devices is gonna be that power cord we all use.

The plug itself is the standard 3x blade AC power plug, and thats max rating is 1500-2000W or 15-17Amps.

My circuit is using 30A relays but the power cord cant handle that, so we label it with a "Max Power Handling 1500W" on the cover.

Happy to answer questions if you guys have any
