  1. Thanks - I am going to try that.
  2. We verified that the two boards had the same modules including part numbers. So we kept the two boards the unit came with. Should I go ahead and replace these with the boards from my old unit?
  3. After my recent annual on my 1982 201, the KFC-150 quit working. It seems like it had no power to it. So I went ahead and replaced the KC-192 (head) with another one that was operating when removed from another airplane. I even paid to have it bench tested before installation and everything was fine. After I installed it, the power came on fine but the seft test button on the KC-192, when depressed does absolutely nothing - the light stays lit and the unit does not go into the self test mode. After doing tons of research on this, I was pointed to the pitch servo and so I replaced that unit as well. The problem was still the same - the test light just stares at me like the unit is trying to tell me that it is too old for me to mess with. Well, I am not ready to give up on this just yet and to replaced it with a new digital Garmin unit. Any ideas of the problem? I don't think it can be in the servo's since the self test doesn't even begin checking the system.
  4. I took the plunge and completely redoing and upgrading my 1993 Bravo instrument panel with all glass Garmin panel.. I am in need of replacing the existing panel that have a lot of circular openings to a new panel better suited for glass. Does anyone know where I can get the template to make the Bravo panel (DXL file)? Or is there any existing left and right blank panels available?
  5. I am so sorry to hear of his recent medical condition. A great Engineer for Mooney, a great friend to all of us. Prayers to Ron and his family.
  6. Looking fo an engine mount repair station for a Mooney rocket.
  7. Yes - going from out to in and it's on the cold side. The engine was sagging which caused it.
  8. During a recent annual on my 1980/1992 231 Rocket I noticed the turbocharger has dent in the housing unit and will need to be repaired(?) or replaced. Anyone know who can help me with this or can sell me a turbocharger?
  9. I have decided to upgrade my Bravo panel with full glass removing my Aspen, KAP 150 AP, JPI 930 and all the round gauges that have been in the plane since birth in 1993. In place of this I am installing the Garmin TXI with AHRS, IFD550 and the GI 275 with ADAHRS.. To do this the 10.5 inch G500 will sit in the center of the pilots panel which means that all of the holes that currently exist on the panel will either have to be patched or to replace the entire panel with a new one. The existing panel from Mooney is curved on the bottom for reasons I was never sure about. This does add some "flavor" to the panel and want this replicated. Is this something an avionics shop can readily do and duplicate it exactly like the copilot panel which I will not be replacing? What are my choices. I will be upgrading my 1982 201 panel with the instruments I am removing from the Bravo.
  10. As a 5000 hour plus pilot flying pretty much continuously since 1986 flying seems to come easy to me. However, I never take that for granted and still use abbreviated checklists, call outs mostly on landing particularly approach speeds, and gear down. Night time flying for me has not my favorite thing to do since I live in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. Last year I did want to do some night flying (solo of course) so I asked a local CFI and former 757 pilot to come fly my 201 during the evening hours. But I asked him to be the PIC in command instead of me, just to see how he does things differently from me. What an experience. It was incredible to monitor the differences on how he fly's it and myself. Even small things like slight heading changes, pitch adjustments, etc. I even asked him to speak out loud on what he is thinking about while flying the plane, how he adjusts the heading corrections necessary to fly straight. And all this while night flying and of course without the AP.. When the flight was over, I dropped him off and then flew for an hour solo that night. I recommend you trying that sometime with your flight instructor. It's amazing the little things (hopefully not major corrections) you can learn from this one flight. Every pilot can learn from others flying techniques and this is a great way to do it.
  11. I would be willing to chip in and pay for his AP then IA if he would do it. All he needs is the certificate, he can recite everything forwards and backwards, and then some.
  12. They would be very very good and would run the company like it should
  13. Might want to talk to Mike Elliott. He is on top of everything Mooney. He is a walking dictionary of Mooney safety, planes, parts, obviously flight instruction, Mooney ownership, managerial people, and just about everything you can imagine. The only thing he lacks is an AP - IA.

  15. With the Saharan dust plume coming soon to the southern parts of the USA, does anyone have any knowledge on how this might effect our airplanes with respect to the very small dust particles getting through the air filters and into the engine. There is very little information on this subject I could find. AOPA had no knowledge when I called them today. I understand these dust particles travel anywhere between 5,000 to 20,000 feet. and are as small as a couple of microns in diameter. Although this is a yearly event for this plume, this year the Saharan is much thicker and intense then in the past.
  16. I am done accumulating “stuff” and went through my collection of Mooney magazines for the past 20 years or so and want to give them to anyone who needs them. For free. I’ll be throwing them away by Friday. A Did not save them in any order. If anyone wants them it’s free but preferably pick up in the Knoxville area. So let me know ASAP.
  17. Nick - the Mooney Summit is open to all Mooney owners, soon to be Mooney owners and all aspiring Mooney people. If you have not bought a Mooney by the time the Summit begins in October, you will certainly want to buy one shortly after.
  18. As much as I would have loved to continue the Mooney Summit in Panama City Beach next year, the space available to grow the summit was just not there. I enjoyed donating all my condos and homes in the past and would have next year but Tampa Airport Authority wanted to host the summit in the future and made a very kind donation to the event. The board was unanimous in its decision to move it to Tampa. I greatly appreciate all the efforts the people at KECP and especially at Sheltair has done for us to make the Mooney Summit the event it is.
  19. Just returned from PCB and PC. PCB got spared. Origin condo showed absolutely no signs of damage. Some insulation from the roof top blown over. I never lost any power, and water was off for about 24 hours. All my four homes including the one on Spyglass and Gulf Drive which are used during the Mooney Summit was virtually untouched. Some minor shingles need replaced, a fence on Spyglass was broken but can be easily spared. I was indeed fortunate especially after watching the video below from Accuweather showing my home on Spyglass with the coral fencing during the storm. Panama City which we went to to assist in Search and Rescue is a completely different story. That city was devastated for as wide and far as we could see. It extended from the east end of PCB eastward for about 50 miles or so taking everything in its path. Those homeless people, thousands of them, no where to go, no food, water, electricity, no internet and no Verizon phone service. No shelter, no bathing, no showers, no nothing!. Food lines were long while they were sweltering in the hot 90+ degree weather. And there was practically nothing I could do. This was an awakening moment for me. The good news - there will be a Mooney Summit VII next year. September 27-29. Unfortunately, I think the PROATE chamber which was going to be at the MS next year was housed at Tyndall and probably met its fate there - time will tell on this. Ron Dubin
  20. I took my Bravo for a 30 minute flight at 3000 ft MSL and the oil pressure was still around 50. So I guess its not the tappets and need to turn the pressure valve up a bit. Just don't understand why the factory sent it to me with low oil pressure in the low greens.
  21. My oil pressure does drop with lower RPM.
  22. I just called lycoming and talked to tech support. They said they not aware of any tapper issue with these engines. I’m not inclined to believe them. My engine was made in 2015 so it would fit into the time frame. I never paid much attention to altitude but I know what I’m going to do next week when I fly it next. Yep get my o2 masks on and check it.
  23. I have checked with Origin management and the best weekend to have the formation clinic will be the from Feb 23-25. So I am holding all my rooms at this point. Hopefully we can get an accurate headcount on the people attending before those dates
  24. So...for those that want to participate in the Mooney Formation Flying Clinic in Panama City Beach, Fl from March 23-25, I will gladly give all those pilots free accomidations at my condo's at Origin. Mike and I feel that flight experience and education as well as advancing flight skills are paramount importance and anything we can do to help this cause we will do. I will need a head count on those that can attend so I can reserve the condo's. This is not the Mooney Summit but specific to the formation flight clinic. The Mooney Summit will be from Sept 27 -30, 2018 at Panama City Beach Ron Dubin
