I picked up my aircraft this afternoon from the paint shop and she just sparkles now.  I kept it local and went with R&B Aircraft at Topeka's Billard Municipal airport.  They did an outstanding job detailing my aircraft and I couldn't be happier.  Definitely worth a look if your in the Midwest looking for a new paint job. Start to finish time was 4.5 weeks, some minor delays due to really bad weather.

I also had the tail number changed while I was at it.  That was a really simple process.  I have more pics of the entire process posted on my website if anyone's interested.

Brian,

I think the white top over blue bottom is extra special !!!

What is the significance of your new N number?  or you were just looking for a change?

Thanks!

My wife graduated from Notre Dame in May 97.  I graduated the same year from Embry-Riddle, but thought it wiser to go the ND route...   Innocent  Thought the colors were rather fitting as well.  The blue mettalic is really hard to photograph, but looks awesome in person.

Outstanding.  She should turns heads where ever you go.

How did you get by with the small N-number?  I was under the impression that if you repainted you had to go back with the large numbers.

Brian ND looks fantastic.  I hope to see it in person some time.  May you have some nice flying weather.  Definitely going to be faster with that slick new paint...moving and standing still.  Very nice.

For my numbers, CFR 45.22 states certified aircraft over 30 years old is considered an antique and can have the minimum 2" numbers.  If I decide to fly to the Bahama's, then I'd need to add temporary 12" numbers to cross in and out of the ADIZ.  I did a lot of research to make sure I was straight.  Most good paint shops understand the regs and won't let the plane out of their shop with incorrect numbers.  Aircraftcolor.com has an explaination for the different sizes.  http://www.aircraftcolor.com/ninfo.asp

Other than that, small is cool... :)

Thanks,

I think it looks wonderful Brian.  Congrats on the cool paint job. I have to get my fuel leak before ArtCraft takes a whack at my Maggie II.  All the best

Very nice!

Just curious: What sort of prep do they do for your landing gear? Your gear legs (in the BEFORE shots) look like mine -- a lot of rusty spots. I imagine that to paint them right the gear needs to be completely disassembled, blasted or mechanically stripped, and then primed/painted. Is this included in the 'standard' paint job price for a Mooney?

Your plane looks great.....seems like half the planes on the forum have either been painted in the last year, or are planned to get a paint job soon.

Congratulations Brian!!! She looks Beautifull!!

I also like the American Flags on your gear doors - subtle but makes a great statement!! I may do the same on my plane.

Thanks guys.  I hated the wait, but visiting it weekly helped and it was worth it.

The flag is on both doors with the one on the copilots side being stars forward to mirror the one on the pilots side (flag in motion).  Really is a nice effect.  I think I got them from Chief Aircraft, but believe Spruce and the like have them as well.

Brian-

Your plane has come a long way since you purchased last year. Congrats-- it looks beautiful.

I'm also happy you shared the information about the 2" N numbers (antiques!). I've been struggling for several weeks on how to design mine (slant forward, slant back, no slant at all, etc.). This may be the way I'll end up going too. These nuggets of info make Mooneyspace a great place to dwell Smile

Thanks.  The paint on mine was waaaaaay over due.  It was still carrying the original 1967 paint or at least what was left of it.  I did want something different and a little more modern with curves.
