If I were interested in buying I would want to buy from a reputable broker or the actual owner. Full prebuy at Don Maxwell's shop would be mandatory. I will leave it to others to comment on the reputation of these sellers. I would be most concerned about the engine and the quality of the post-strike inspection. Bottom line is if I had the money for an Ovation I wouldn't be looking for one on EBay.

It wasn't clear to me that the engine got a tear down inspection. It also sounds like the prop was overhauled not replaced.  Edit...... appears the prop was replaced......

The ad sounds misleading if you don't read it carefully. The avionics are listed but are not included. The radios were removed. Sounds like the stack is empty. Buyer must furnish the avionics of his choice.

 

Fresh paint sure can make a plane look nice........

I'm not in the market for an airplane, but I'm always looking. I enjoy the hunt. You're right, Cruiser, it's a nice paint job.

At the right price it could be a steal. At the wrong price, it's a lemon!

I trust my mechanic more than I trust a MSC's reputation. I'd rather fly him out to look at it anyway if I were interested. But to each their own....

I would want some sort of eyes on prior to bidding though.... Something tells me that ovation will be online for a while, though...

Here is what it looked like before the pretty paint was put on it. He also refuses to allow you to fly it anywhere for a prebuy. The avionics listed in the salvage sale do not match the trays that are installed.

My biggest concern out of the whole thing would be the engine- 2004 overhaul with only a couple hundred hours on it and a tear down. Could be a recipe for corrosion...

Then again... For the right price...

Just the starting line of the eBay ad is enough to scare me! If you can't take it somewhere for a pre-buy, I wouldn't touch it. Also, don't overlook the cost of replacing the avionics stack. Even if it were wired correctly, the boxes alone will run you quite a bit.

Airplane porpoised and tailcone hit the ground and prop strike.

That's a hell of a porpoise for a long body, and that alone is enough to tell me "run don't walk."

Also when they block the bidders and make them private listings that's a big red flag. That is one of the first things I look at when bidding on big ticket items. I like to see how many airplanes, cars GPS's that person bid on besides this particular plane. It let's you know if they are real bids or just dummy bids. I bought 21NA on EBAY and don't regret it. Anybody that wont let you do a pre-buy inspection at a shop of your choice with you covering the expense is a bigger red flag. I personally would not bid on this plane.

Just watching this one and not interested in spending the money on an Ovation, but all the "caveat emptor" comments notwithstanding, these two will probably find someone gullible enough to buy it within their conditions.

The write up seems like they know airplanes, but sumthin' doesn't seem right. Anyone call the folks and talk to them?

This is the same bunch out of Tn that buys salvage Mooneys and puts them back together. Search Mooneyspace for "ultimate Mooney" or Submarine Mooney and those threads will tell you all you need to know.

As soon as I saw Morristown, TN, this is what I thought. I'm surprised this guy isn't feeling the heat after that guy crashed his last eBay deal.

i really don't having skin in the game and i really don't know what crash you are referring to. but was there any link between the fact that the aircraft was fixed after damage and the crash ( in the crash you are referring to ?) .

my question is really a candid one.

Nope- in fact, it was the submarine mooney that he's referring to... The new owner consumed alchohol, flew at night in WX and ran out of fuel trying to find a place to land. He and his passenger walked away after he put it down near some power lines. The crash had nothing to do with mechanical failure... Just a whole lotta stupid!
