triple8s Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 The worst thing about these types of people is what they do to the rest of us that try to fly responsibly. The media ALWAYS sensationalizes the event and then you have people that over react like the principal who expelled a grade school boy for eating his pop tart into the shape of a gun. Quote
Marauder Posted March 12, 2013 Author Report Posted March 12, 2013 There is a thread of PoA about this plane. It was apparently a flood damaged aircraft that was salvaged and pit back together again. Quote

N601RX Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Its the "Ultimate Mooney" that we discussed a few times on here. Looks like Jerry finally sold it. I'm guessing he may be about to get a lot more attention than he wants. Quote
co2bruce Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 N199Q, is the tail number. I'm glad everyone is OK, but I agree this does a big dis-service to the flying community. Quote

rbridges Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 what a retard. He had sense enough to shut off the fuel lines but was too stupid to ground himself from flying drunk. Quote
Sabremech Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 No sympathy for them. Remove the warning labels and let stupid sort itself out. Quote
N601RX Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I just wander if he had any idea of the history of the plane. It sounds to me from what I've read that although he was drinking, the plane was having mechanical problems. Quote

DaV8or Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I guess Jerry can buy it back again and put 'er back on eBay! He already knows the plane intimately, so it should be easy. Quote

I agree with this statement. It really does not help...we have to be more careful and responsible, otherwise our privileges are going to erode. Quote
fantom Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Any good lawyer knows this fool didn't start drinking until after the crash 1 Quote
N33GG Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) I like the way you think Fantom! And after that horrific crash, who could blame him. From the look of the crashed aircraft, it looks like maybe it was the Mooney that was doing the drinking. Edited March 12, 2013 by N6719N Quote
fantom Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 From the look of the crashed aircraft, it looks like maybe it was the Mooney that was doing the drinking. With that planes history, I'd need a couple of drinks just to get into it, much less fly it. I've often wondered if jerry and coy are related. Quote

It sounds to me from what I've read that although he was drinking, the plane was having mechanical problems. I agree, the media likes to tell others the pilot was drunk. How do they know? I also bet it was from mechanical problems. Just because the pilot says he has been drinking doesn't mean he is drunk, maybe a beer an hour or two before flight. That would be illegal but not drunk. I for one would like to support a brother pilot, innocent until proven guilty. My 2 cents. Quote
aviatoreb Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Wow - I remember that Mooney, and the thread about it. The general consensus was that this was one dangerous airplane scam. I quote from that thready, "Anybody who buys this fateful Mooney could seriously be risking their lives IMO." Thank goodness the people survived this crash but the crash is hardly a surprise. Who do we point this information out to? My our information could put Jerry out of business? Quote
DaV8or Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Who do we point this information out to? My our information could put Jerry out of business? No need to do any pointing. Now that the NTSB is involved, they will be looking at logs and records. All will be revieled. Jerry is not unknown to the FAA. If Jerry's shoddy work is to blame and the papers aren't in order, they will get to Jerry fast enough without any help. In Jerry's defence, it may be just stupid drunk pilot tricks at play here. At this point we really don't know what happened. All we do know is a nice old Mooney drown in a flood only to arise from the dead as a zombie. Now the Mooney is dead for good. RIP. Quote

I wish it were true. My guess is that someone will buy the salvage and begins selling off zombie parts... Quote
FloridaMan Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 I wonder if it ran out of gas or if it was another issue that made the owner think he had run out of gas. Crashing an airplane is pretty traumatic and I would not think the pilot's first diagnosis to necessarily be correct. Quote
