Did the test today, worked flawlessly. I threw it off the dash for takeoff and landing but had a good connection flying north or south, could do everything that I need it for in the air. It's a no brainer. I can't wait for a longer flight!

does it actually fit on the dash? i assumed you’d have to go to a window mount where reception is a little trickier.

First use of Global Priority today, flying to Long Island, Bahamas. Worked great. Was able to call FSS to cancel flight plan at altitude and passengers were able to rub it into friends and family that they were flying to the Bahamas. So far, no complaints, except not doing it sooner.

Not ideal but yeah, it fits:

I am considering testing it on the pax side window and see how that works. If it could provide a reasonable connection enough to get traffic and weather I will do that. I seriously hope they can come out with a smaller form factor for the antenna. Or just make direct-to-cell finally available.

It works for either

I was going to try to use your code, but it sounds like my Home Depot purchase isn’t eligible… you have to buy direct :(

I haven’t flown with it yet, but I was very surprised at how little space it occupies on the glareshield.. when I put it all the way forward, it was five or six inches in from the edge.

Yeah, the J has the hump over the annunciation panel and makes a nice place to locate it in front of the pilot. The flat glare shield seems to have a little less space available.

I want to make sure it doesn't scratch my windshield so I ordered one of these. It should cut down on the glare too. I'll see how it does with the heat in the summer.

I have one of those in my cart. I really don’t love the bright white - definitely a glare magnet. But I was worried too about the heat.

This is the one I have in my cart. It has a black screen protector (or something like that) along with the case

I was concerned about that as well and did a “scratch test” against the wind screen. The Starlink is softer than the windscreen.

Flew with my Starlink Mini today. It’s pretty idiot-proof. Saw something like 80mb down and about 8-10mb up, and the satellite connectivity was maintained flying on every cardinal heading. Based on this very rudimentary test, I’m optimistic that it will be a reliable source of internet connectivity if needed in the future.

I don’t expect to use the Starlink much when airborne - ultimately this is for the few times a year that we vacation miles away from a cellular signal, as well as a backup for our normal home internet.

But it’s so easy to use that I absolutely can see the value in having this available for nervous passengers. For certain flights on certain days, nothing will calm a passenger down like being able to doomscroll their favorite feed.

Musk and company have jerked the price around so much, it makes be gun shy.  Everyone is buying equipment right now, but what if he drops the speed back down to 100 knots next week?

Then it would have been well worth it while it worked. wink

Just flew with mine to the Bahamas and my passengers loved being able to text and post pictures to their heart’s content the whole trip.

I admit I haven't read every post on this, so I apologize if this has been answered. Has anybody tried the Starlink Mini facing out the side rear window at a slight upward angle? I would like one, but really don't want it on the glareshield. I fly with the rear seats removed and am sure I could rig some sort of appropriate mount back there.

Thanks, Larry

Seems like the MS crowd is about 50/50 between back window mounts and glareshield mounts. I haven’t tried the back window, but the main downside aiui is that you will need to shift it to the more northward facing window depending on your route of flight. The glareshield you basically just toss it up there and turn it on.

Yeah, set it and forget it. (Glareshield)

I didn’t have much success with the side rear window(s) plus it kept falling off of the suction mounts. I just throw it on the glare shield. Looks like crap but it works like a charm.

I was surprised at how much room there is on the glare shield even with the Starlink sitting there. In my Piper, there’s about half as much space to fit a Mini -

There's lots of room on top of the panel with the 201 windshield. On a Vintage Mooney with the original windshield, there's about half as much space.

Oh interesting. I’ve never even sat in a vintage Mooney so I have no idea :)
