davidsguerra Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 hey Guys I need recommendations for a good chronometer. do they make a chrono/ hobbs combo? 2 1/4 slot only please. thanks David Quote
jeckford Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 Don't have direct experience but after some research this is what we are about to install in our plane. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/ei-chronometers.php Quote
MooneyMitch Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 We are putting one of these on our Silent Auction for Oceano Airport Celebration Day, May 12, and I am going to bid on it too! I like that it has altitude alarm settings. Very cool! It was generously donated by Electronics International. http://www.buy-ei.com/Pages/Clocks/ASC-5A_Overview.html Quote
Lionudakis Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 I've installed several of those and the next one will be in mine. Very cool unit ! Quote
dougmilam Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 Installed an EI SC-5 in the plane last annual. Really like having local/zulu and the timers. I didn't expect to use the engine timer much, but have found it is great for keeping track of hours since oil change. The lighting of the instrument is also quite good. I would install it again. Hank Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 That EI looks like a good unit. Cheaper than the chronometer on my wrist, and does more than just tell time. But my vintage panel is quite full, I would have to remove something to make space. May have to redo the panel when/if ADSB ever gets going . . . Quote
danb35 Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 I installed the Davtron M803 in my plane when I redid the panel. I like having the digital OAT display, and didn't really want to deal with wiring it to the encoder like the EI wants. Quote
jetdriven Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 We are installing a Dayton M803. It has 4 time zones, timer, volts, OAT, and it's backlit. Downside? 400$. Quote
danb35 Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 Byron, if you keep an eye on eBay you may be able to do better--I got a NOS one from Cirrus for about $200. It was a 28V model, but that only affects the backlighting (and the bulbs can be changed if you're handy with a soldering iron). Quote
PTK Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 I recently installed in my airplane the Davtron M802. It's brand new and not out quite yet but I'm testing it for them. I can tell you it is an excellent chronometer with countdown time, elapsed time illuminated buttons and all the features Davtron is known for. I like it especially because it displays both GMT and local times simultaneously in a nice graphic dimable display. It is an excellent dedicated chronometer. I'd recommend it highly if you are not in a particular hurry. I also have the Davtron M655 multifunction instrument (volts, PA, DA and OAT) I love to have DA at the push of a button. I like it alot and I really like Davtron as a company. Very customer friendly and responsive. Quote
KSMooniac Posted March 27, 2012 Report Posted March 27, 2012 I have a Davtron M811 clock and M655 OAT/multi-function instrument and like both of them very much. Don't be afraid to check eBay for these units...they come up frequently and are simple and robust. The factory can support them if needed for modest cost too. Quote

jetdriven Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 Yes we are replacing it with the Davtron. We keep the OAT plus gain a clock and voltmeter. Quote
