It is unclear (to me) if you are selling complete G1000 units or just the WAAS upgrade. If selling the complete units, what modifications will be needed to make them compatible with a Mooney 231? Do all the sensors, cables and connectors come as well? Can these be programmed to function with a turbo aircraft? Again, answers only if selling the complete units and not just the WAAS upgrade.

A G1000 is not , and can NOT be legally fitted to a 231 , He is selling the nav com processors , 2 boxes that go in the back of the plane... A G1000 is a certified part of the airframe...

Let me add more confusion…  :)

The two devices on the back shelf supporting the G1000 are originally non-WAAS….

Swapping them out with the WAAS version of the GIAs… is airframe specific…

Where we have seen this difference taken care of in the past… included help from @Pmaxwell

When I discuss G1k issues… I always invite @Deb for insight… Deb has way more experience and memory for these issues than me… :)

Use caution going forwards… getting WAAS is a great idea…

It is expensive… so avoid any possible errors before owning the boxes…

Unfortunately, if you don’t already have a non-WAAS G1K in your panel… purchasing a pair of GIAs to support what isn’t there, won’t get you very far…

PP thoughts only, expecting to add some useful insight… but only have fuzzy memories…

Best regards,

-a-

I think it would might be more economical to replace the G1000 with a G3X?

Not legal.  G1000 is part of the type certificate.

When I was looking at available aircraft with WAAS and non-WAAS G1000 last year, I believe upgrading requires the GIA units in back for sure, but possibly also a different panel or panels up front to fully use the VNAV features in the exact same way as a G1000 with WAAS from the factory. I was told there was even a button lacking (either on the P/MFD panel or the GFC700 panel). I did not go down this path, so did not verify this nor research the exact model #s and how hard they would be to source.

Would tend towards the piece of advice above re: getting a hold of someone who knows this stuff well and confirm exactly what you need, and whether the offered GIA63W's definitely fit your installation. A phone call to a friendly avionics expert might be the ticket... esp. since you will want a shop to install, configure, update, vet the install.

The MFD on early G1000s are lacking the VNAV button, although with the WAAS upgrade and the correct software,  VNAV can still be used - just no dedicated button.

The -01 and the -20 GIA63W are the only units that will work in the Mooney G1000.
