My A&P and I removed the windshield last week.  The new one arrived on Friday.  It took us about 3 1/2 hours to remove it (I was lucky, original window with standard rivets, not cherry max), another 3 1/2 to clean all the old sealant out, and now ready to install.  I'm ready to order the sealant and am wondering how many 6 oz. tubes it takes for the job?  Anyone have some advice?

I'm also ordering the power caulking gun for that size tubes.  I've borrowed one before for installing TKS deice panels and it works so much easier than hand pumping with stage four arthritis in the wrists.

I've been collecting supplies.  I have the PRC, a bunch of nozzles, and the mixing device, but finally cancelled a manual caulking gun after a few months.  Do you have a source for the power gun?

You can modify a Home Depot caulking gun by sanding down the diameter of the disk that fits inside the tube, and then you tape the PR 1422 SEM kit cartridge to the caulk gun and then give it hell.

Still wondering how many tubes to seal a windshield?  Would 4 be enough?

I would think one would be plenty. That stuff goes a long way. The surfaces fit flush so it doesn't take much. You can also get it in cans. Mix it up and thin it and apply with a brush.

The amount we peeled out was clearly more than one tubes worth.  Maybe not 4 tubes though.

I will admit the only windshield I've done was in an M20F. It has screws all the way around. it fits very snug to the metal and requires very little sealant. the later models may not fit that snug and may require more.
