Beginning May 20, LASAR will be performing all maintenance and repair operations out of the Prineville, OR (S39) airport. We are really excited to bring the company up to Central Oregon for many reasons, and I recorded a short video below to let you know the details.

I hate videos, can’t you just tell us what the deal is?

They're going to start answering the phones and shipping parts on time... no, just kidding!

What about Dan?  Will parts remain in Lakeport?

Do they have any Mooney experts moving with them?  That’s where the value is to us.  Well that and sourcing parts.

Who will be first to try it out and report back to us?

maybe they are just tired of california

If that’s the case, Oregon is likely not the best remedy.

Yes, Dan will still be with us.

You didn't completely answer the question, and I have a few more:

1. What, if anything, is remaining in Lakeport?

2. LASAR used to maintain some overhaul exchange components. Most notably improved nose gear components and landing gear actuators, most of which now show out of stock. Do you still rebuild these? Are there any you no longer service? I was under the impression that the personnel that had experience overhauling these parts were in Lakeport, so is the work going to be done in Lakeport or Prineville, and what is the experience of the personnel doing the work?

3. A lot of your STC parts are out of production. Are you going to make any available again?

I have always purchased all my parts for LASAR. Frankly the service has taken a nosedive since Corrine left. Dan is hard to get ahold of and your telephone message says to go online or leave a message. One advantage of LASAR for parts, besides formally good customer service, is that you had a lot of stock and a really efficient online ordering process. But now that the inventory has dwindled and support is not what it once was, I am having a hard time seeing much advantage LASAR holds over other MSCs for obtaining parts.

I welcome you response,

Skip

well i get what you mean but eastern oregon is not the same as Portland

No argument there, but then Lake County isn’t the same as the LA county. Finley, CA  is a fine little town.

I’ve tried to buy parts from LASAR, only success I’ve had is online ordering, leave a message and it’s not returned, so leave a message online like the phone suggests and it’s not returned.

Is this because of the move? Will you resume sourcing parts and overhauling components you don’t now?

Notice I’m not complaining about price, just ability to purchase.

I’ve tried and tried to buy a no-back spring, with the intent to send you the actuator to install, was put on a list about six months ago, but have been unable to contact since

Just tried very recently when rumor had it that Mooney was shipping some, unsuccessfully.

Take my money, please :)

I was told I was “on the list” for a no back spring about 6 months ago from LASAR but no luck in getting one. My last 4 emails kindly asking for an update have been ignored.

Fortunately, I was able to get it from another MSC. I think that’s the last time I’m going to try to get parts from LASAR.

Sorry guys, but you’re going to have to try harder if you want people to take you seriously. Ghosting customers is not the best way to do business.

Well, about half the time I am in Bend which not much more than a touch and go away from Prineville. I'll mosey over and have a look and report back next time I'm down there.

Hey Brett @LASAR, are you hanging out here at all? I sent you an email to brettstokes@lasar.com on 5/3 about doing some work on my M20J, but I haven't heard back.

I received a reply via email regarding parts and indeed LASAR parts will not be moving. I was told via email that flap gap seals are going to be available soon as are one piece belly pans.

I checked out their hangar in Prineville today as I was down there for work.  Looks like they are very early in the actual moving process.  There are some moving boxes and an Ovation in the hangar but it’s an otherwise empty and nondescript hangar with no signs of life yet.

There’s life!

I was in Prineville today and stopped by Lasar for a visit.  They have 3 big hangars, probably room for at least 2 airplanes in each.  There’s a lot of work going on painting the hangars, building work tables, etc, but there’s an actual Mooney in there getting an annual!  I was told nobody from the Lakeport office moved, so the mechanics they have are relatively newer to Mooney, but the one i met had 12 years experience on other airframes and is an IA.  He did have some recent Mooney experience from their Rancho Murieta location.  I was told there’s still going to be some activity at lakeport and I was told, they still are available to do nose gear trusses, etc and plan to keep doing that kind of repair work.

Although work was happening, it still looks like they’re moving in, so contact might be sketchy.  I didn’t see any fully functional offices yet.  They were scheduling an annual on a laptop on a plywood desk in the middle of the hangar.
