Wow I just had a flashback to phone trees. Millennials will have to Google it.

Maybe this will bring back some memories:

I was recently working with a medical student and I made a comment about how you keep a memory of different diagnoses in your head with the salient features and each time you see it you can add more information - kind of like flipping through a Rolodex. Of course his next question was “what’s a Rolodex?”

I have no idea what it takes to move one of those machines once it's in position, but I would think a conspicuously worn hospital badge and perhaps a *slightly* embellished explanation of why there was no alternative to flying that day might count for something. I could see it working beautifully or completely backfiring, depending on what kind of day they are having.

I don’t post here much anymore. But I don’t disagree with @eyes_skyward AT ALL; actually thought the same thing myself.

But having known @ilovecornfields for many years I knew that would never be the way he would handle this situation.  I fully expected he would humbly accept the issue (not be happy but would never imply his importance overrode the situation) and move one to plan B.

The airport I have a home on in Florida ALWAYS advises EVERY aircraft owner on ANY planned upcoming maintenance or taxiway closures.  Clearly not a very professionally handled situation!

Anyone that has ever had a flying lesson knows how important access to the plane is at all times, even the middle of the night, on holidays, or whenever….

People not familiar with aircraft… have no idea…. It is just too foreign to them…

I often got stymied by people parking in front of my hangar… out of sight of the helicopter school, on the other side of the hangar…

They came for their hour helicopter ride around NYC, and couldn’t recognize what they had done…

Essentially, the guy scheduling the drill rig operation knows his way around the airport…

If you need someone to discuss this with… find that guy and ask how he would like it if you scheduled a drill rig to be in his driveway at his house… :)

The drill rig guys know the operation… including what it is like drilling in the middle of a highway…. There is a ton of notification when you are shutting down a lane of an important highway on the West side of Manhattan…

They have a boss on site… who has all the contacts on the airport…

Demobilizing enough to get a plane past… may have been in their plan…

Drilling is often done one ten foot segment at a time….

Installing test wells is not always a continuous process… they shut down at the end of the day, and pick up where they left off the next day… and take lunch breaks…

Find the boss… ask the right questions… expect that there is somebody in the know…

PP thoughts only, not an environmental engineer….

Best regards,

Oh this is absolutely unacceptable. I would go ballistic. Being someone who usually uses my plane for transportation purposes, often times to go to work, I would be pissed to say the least. Have you put “No Parking” signs outside of your hangar door since this happened, Anthony? I’m fortunate this hasn’t happened to me yet but where my hangar is there’s really no reason why someone would park blocking my door. Location location location.

When I first bought my plane in 2012 they put me on a row behind, and slightly further away, from the runway. That hangar was essentially in a lane between two sets of T hangars. It was a nicer hangar than the one I opted for which faces the tie downs and has two ingress and egress points. I had the option of keeping that first hangar but decided against it. Knowing how people always park their cars and planes outside of their hangars I didn’t want to deal with that. I knew it would be a problem getting in and out with the occasional “Can you move your car or Skyhawk, please?” So I opted for the not-so-nice hangar with horrible carpet under the tail and wings and kitchen vinyl under the gear. I hate it. But it’s much more convenient and I’m almost never blocked in by anyone’s plane and certainly not by anyone’s car.

P.S. - I removed the kitchen vinyl and laid down Rustoleum Rock Solid and it looks great under the gear now. The carpet is still there. Baby steps.

Sadly lots of people are going out sick right now, and staffing is a real problem for many businesses.  My airport stopped pushback services for hangar residents because there just wasn't anyone to do it.  That said, they did take the charge out of my rent.

I suspect we'll be seeing a bit more of this before things start to inch back toward some semblance of normal.  I think some of the folks who left the job market during the Great Retirement might even come back in, I doubt their money is worth what it was a couple years ago.  That retirement might not look as hot as it did in 2020.
