TCUDustoff Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 So for my old radios, I got three of these adapters from Aircraft Spruce so I can hook in some new RG-400 while still making a future upgrade to a newer COM-2 easier: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/delkin_11-17577.php The issue is that my standard snap-ring pliers won't work to remove the old snap rings nor install the new ones; the prongs are too big! I talked too all three A&Ps on the field and none of their pliers / adapters were small enough. Can anybody here point me in the right direction? My Google-fu has yet to find the right tool for this job and, while I am sure I could make it work picks, I have learned its usually wise to find the right tool to do the job right the first time versus screwing it up and having to buy stuff again.... Thanks! Quote
RLCarter Posted May 11, 2021 Report Posted May 11, 2021 I recently changed one out, had no issues using 90° Snap-On Snap Ring Pliers (small set) Quote
TCUDustoff Posted May 11, 2021 Author Report Posted May 11, 2021 Odd.... I know two of us have the harbor freight specials.... wondering if something about their "cheapness" is what is causing my issue. Quote

Baker Avionics Posted May 12, 2021 Report Posted May 12, 2021 Go to EDMO.com, search for SRT-1 and SRT-2. SRT-1 is the removal tool and the SRT-2 is the installation tool. They are what is used by us. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted May 12, 2021 Report Posted May 12, 2021 I went to Lowe’s... to buy a set of snap ring pliers... It came with a few different noses... but all have the same size prongs... One of these days I’ll find the right snap ring for my tow bar extension thing... See if this helps... -a- Quote
Bob Weber Posted May 12, 2021 Report Posted May 12, 2021 My favorite weapons. Years ago there were tools resembling a screwdriver to reach into the narrow racks to remove them, and a plunge tool to install them.. Quote
TCUDustoff Posted May 13, 2021 Author Report Posted May 13, 2021 @Baker Avionics Thanks for the part numbers! Set ordered! @Bob Weber My neighbor across the street is an older guy with a 1920s rat rod. I went over there during lunch today and asked him if he had something that would work....he had something exactly like your black plier that he used for his old Model T (I think?) carburetor and it worked! Thanks everybody! 1 Quote
Yetti Posted May 15, 2021 Report Posted May 15, 2021 Craftsman sold at Ace Hardware store has a set that works Quote
FloridaMan Posted May 17, 2021 Report Posted May 17, 2021 You want this tool to install them. It’s expensive. It’s also worth it. https://www.opentip.com/EDMO-SRT-2-Snap-Ring-Insertion-Tool-p-3335156.html?ats=gs&gclid=CjwKCAjwqIiFBhAHEiwANg9szs40RhaUMxXKO78RNJMZ7TCbdidMclW_DBB7y-HYTmbyL2-UTDXlIRoCz8MQAvD_BwE Quote
