johnggreen Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Enlighten me. Tap, tap, tap is morse code for? Surely there is an intelligent message from an intelligent source. Quote
johnggreen Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Something is weird. I didn't post that reply. JG Quote
johnggreen Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Never mind. Just a snafu, I posted that reply. Quote
johnggreen Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Wolftimj, Cruiser, Aviatoreb, I'm still curious about "Sweet" and the replies. Tap, tap, tap, anybody there? JG Quote
carusoam Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 John, I would guess the excitement is over the new forum topic... " Mooney Bravo Owners" This would be the first thread under the new forum.... Is it not "sweeeeeet"? Best regards, -a- Quote
PAMooney Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Hello Bravo Owners! Does anyone have a FIKI Bravo with over 950 lbs useful load? Quote
johnggreen Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 Adam, My useful with full TKS aboard is 875. So, what do you have in your J? JG Quote
jetdriven Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 Mine is 974 lb. Take it 700 miles. But its a crappy old J rebuilt from a wreck. And if you listen to people on here, its worthless. Quote
KSMooniac Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 1025 on my old J too. I've done 900 NM and landed with 15 gallons left. No TKS or turbo though... Something to keep in mind that the fuel required for a specific length mission must be compared to get apples-to-apples when comparing a 4-cyl Mooney to a 6-cyl Mooney. I'm curious to see the fuel required on a 500 NM mission for example for a Bravo (or Rocket, or Ovation, etc.) vs. a J. I've never done the comparison and it would be interesting to see if a 1000 lb useful load on either plane results the same ability to carry a given payload the same distance. Quote
PAMooney Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 John, My UL is 948 without any TKS so 903 with the 5 gal of TKS Fluid. Does your Bravo hold 5 or 6 gal of fluid? Adam Quote: johnggreen Adam, My useful with full TKS aboard is 875. So, what do you have in your J? JG Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 Quote: PAMooney Hello Bravo Owners! Does anyone have a FIKI Bravo with over 950 lbs useful load? Quote
PAMooney Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 Quote: Parker_Woodruff You should consider adding TKS to a Mooney 252, Encore conversion. Your useful load would likely be over 1000 lbs without fluid. Then subtract TKS fluid weight. I know CAV Aerospace makes the Encore FIKI and they make many 252s FIKI, but you'd want to make sure they'd make an Encore conversion from a 252 FIKI. My Encore conversion should initially offer 1050 lbs useful, and more when I take a couple old, heavy pieces of equipment out. It's decked out with the big O2 bottle, speed brakes, etc. Quote
johnggreen Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 Adam, I carry 6 gallons of fluid. Have a little extra avionics so I'm on the heavy side and also big Ox tank. JG Quote
Awful_Charlie Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 My useful load is 941, and was actuallly weighed last year at annual (1997 with FIKI and 115CuFt cylinder, tailcone Standby vac pump) Quote
jlunseth Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 No way. You mean your useful load I think, but even so, that is pretty good. How much do your tanks hold? Quote
Awful_Charlie Posted October 1, 2011 Report Posted October 1, 2011 Yes, you're right - useful load it is, so edited the above I'm on standard tanks, so technically 89USG usable, but with a little patience can make it 101. TKS is standard 6.3USG and should be good for about 2.5 hours, but I've never stayed in icing conditions for anywhere near that. The planned diet will be to junk the whole vacuum system when I've got the electric Lifesave horizon in, and when the prop goes beyond limits on an overhaul, considering the 4 plade MT to save 10 lbs on the front, which should hopefully allow me to get rid of one of the charlie weights in the tailcone (I've currently got two in there). I reckon that lot should get me another 20lbs or so Quote
jetdriven Posted October 1, 2011 Report Posted October 1, 2011 I think if you go with the MT propeller you lose FIKI certification. I read on another thread here that the MT propeller baldes were cracking the paint form flexing and IA's would not sign the annual as airtworthy because MT would not release data on the propeller. Could be a solved issue by now, though. Quote
Awful_Charlie Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I was over at Straubing (home of MT) earlier today, and went round to see them about the FIKI business. They categorically told me that changing the prop does not affect the FIKI certification, but that adding the boots also adds 1000EUR to the price. They suspect the 'rumour' comes from the Cirrus installations on the earlier SR22's which themselves were not certified for FIKI, so changing the prop wouyld not make a 'no harzard' install into a FIKI one. I forgotr to ask about the paint cracking issue - sorry Ben Quote
KSMooniac Posted November 22, 2011 Report Posted November 22, 2011 I'm currently battling with MT over a repeated paint failure due to their design of the paint relative to the stainless leading edges. They have not been responsive thus after after the second failure. At this point I would not recommend using them. Quote
