Next Wednesday or Thursday I’m flying to Penn Yan from Oregon. I’ll be there for three or for days visiting family. One day if the weather works out I want to do the New York City, Hudson River tour. If anyone wants to break out of quarantine and meet up let me know.

Wish I could fly with you. The Hudson River is a blast to fly, and your cross-country trip should be gorgeous. Are you going all the way to Penn Yan in one day? That's a very long day.

The plan is one day there. Weather and tail winds will be the determining factor. Right now I’m planning to go by myself so I won’t have to worry if it’s to much for someone else. On the way back it will be for sure 2 days maybe more if I sightsee.

I’m looking forward to the city tour. I love NY!! It will be the first time I see it from this vantage point.

The FAA has a two page procedure for flying the Hudson River exclusion corridor...

Full of reporting points, altitudes, frequencies, all the usual...

Fly slowly, lots of helicopters, and plenty to see...

All the good stuff is probably five miles long... ten miles will include even the not so good stuff... :)

Best regards,

Don’t forget the required procedure corse you have to take with a certificate that must me in the plane with you. I’m looking forward to circle around the Statue of Liberty. Hopefully I can fit both the transition and the NYSFRA and get two different altitude prospectives. But we’ll see how it goes. I definitely don’t want to hit a helicopter....:)

Helicopters typically like to circle the lady near 500’...

Travelers are near 1000.... or higher in contact with ATC...

Some Buildings are taller than your altitude...

Its like traveling on a highway... stay to the right...   it is easy to drift  and appear as though you are close to the edge...

If anything interests you in going up the east River.... it is extra narrow, and ends... leaving the unknowing in tight pickle... the FAA created a cross-over so errant Cirri don’t fall Out of the sky...  Corey Lidle accident SR20...

The Brooklyn bridge is up The East River...

It’s tradition to dial an MSer when you fly over their house... I have seen 201er do it to Yves in one of his videos... 201er lives in Brooklyn...

:)

For touring NYC on the ground Linden is probably the closest airport... on the Jersey side... Uber to the train is pretty short... NJ transit goes right by KLDJ...

Where about in upstate are you going to be? I have family in Watkins Glen and Ithica, but cant make the trip next week,  perhaps our paths can cross in the future. In Hammondsport is a "must do" for every aviator, and highly suggest you take a day to visit it.

enjoy the video first, as it will really put a lot of meaning into what you are about to see.

EDIT: Just noticed they are still closed from c19 and hope to open later this month or July

My family has a house in Watkins Glen, it actually backs up to the nascar track. But I’m going to Penn Yan. It would be great to meet up on another trip. I will check out the museum if I have time. Thanks Mike.
