Hello,

Esteemed board! It's great to read a universe of information on this board and be a part of your community!

As I began looking around my "new to me" M20F, I'm starting seeing things that I never seen before (1st time Mooney user).

I pulled my yoke clock and took a look inside.

I noticed two tubes, one is connected. I'm assuming that these are the controls for PC disconnect. Why only one tube is connected?

I also noted two disconnected wires and wondering what they used to be connecting to? Any theories?

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Regards,

Yuriy

The other end of that tube, under the panel, is connected to the PC wing leveler system.  When you press the button, or pull the button out to disable it, it bleeds vacuum (allows air to enter) which deactivates the system.  The other open tube would just be the path for air to enter the system when you press the button...so being open like that would be normal.  At least, that's how I think it works and how mine looks.  If I'm wrong, I'm going to learn something new too!

Now MS has officially finished this project...

What year got a clock light?

My 65C’s instrument lights were projected from overhead...   :)

Go MS!

It'll be the first necktie I will have worn in a couple of years. Full Windsor knot, even if they make us stay on the road.

You'll come to really enjoy the PC system, it's great. I've impressed a couple of instructors with my excellent rudder skills!

You might want to go check the Marine Corps Memorial while there. It's less than a mile away. If you have time, travel to Quantico (about 1 hr) Marine Corps museum. In my biased opinion,  its one of the best military museums, even better than Imperial War Museum in Londa

I'm very much looking forward to using my PC. But my wing level rubber boots is dry cracked, so I need to replace it. I looked around this board but didn't see where anyone has done this before. Have you seen anyone posting about it previously?

Regards,

Yuriy

There have been a few...maybe try searching for "Scotch Super 33+" which is the "official" repair tape for the boots. Somebody even posted that they found it in a 2-in width but the most I was able to find was 1 1/2-in wide, which works quite well. You can get the 3/4 in width at any Home Depot or Lowe's. I'm on my phone so I can't get you a direct link, but that should get you all of the relevant posts.

There is plenty of discussion regarding repair of the rubber boots...

The discussion regarding replacement of the boots always ended in a discussion about a mold that needed repair that will be done some time off in the future, unfortunately...

The contact (Celia) for the Brittain company is around here somewhere...

The family business lost their key tech guy.... tough being a human...

We have many MSers that have military backgrounds... there is a thread around here that is a picture collection of many of their work planes...or what used to be their work plane...

I think @Danb is a Marine as well... (so I invited Dan to the conversation).  Then We’ll see if my memory is any good.... :)

If all Brittain needs is mold repair, that's what I've been doing / supervising for 30+ years. Guess I need to look up the new owner!

Hank, @Hank

That would be really interesting... :)

Cecilia is @CSmith.... Cecilia Henderson is the Brittain person and can be found here @CSmith...   or support@brittainautopilots.com

I don’t believe there is a change of ownership... just a change of time...

There are soooo many planes using the Brittain system, not just Mooneys...

It would be a real interesting story if MSers could solve this age old challenge...

Best regards,

And...related to the Brittain servos, those are vacuum servos with rolling diaphragms...and yes, we all know that...but they're used in lots of industrial applications.  At some point, when I had one out for measurement, I was going to see if there was a compatible diaphragm in this catalog.

And, hopefully, we could substitute a compatible diaphragm under this:
