Maybe we should point the other active thread about when to retract the gear because of possibility of a aborted take-off to this thread which appears may be an aborted take-off.

It gets worse: two MORE, that I was just made aware of.

Just spent some time flying locally after two weeks out of the air; spoke to acquaintances at the FBO. A 1987 M20J had a gear-up within the last 10 days at KHII.  Very senior pilot; family decided that he was done flying, and the plane was purchased by Havasu Air. Engine torn down; usual process underway to render the plane safe and functional.  For anyone interested, I believe Havasu Air will end up putting it on the market, once finished (NOTE: I have no personal interest in this).

In Bullhead City AZ, a 2007 Acclaim had a VERY hard landing; owner and instructor onboard, and thankfully unhurt.  Nosegear collapsed, and one or both gear damaged as well. It will be trucked overland to Havasu for repair (should make for an interesting Youtube video). Sounds like it was forced onto the runway, but: I was not there, and it is purely surmising on my part.

The three good things that come out of all this:

1. Nobody was injured.

2. Somebody is going to get themselves an M20J at an attractive price.

3. Neither of the above incidents were me!

FYI: I've no idea what just happened to my last post. I wrote about two Mooney incidents locally in the last 10 days, and "Re: EDM700 in M20J..." gets posted.

I'll repost later: HATE retyping things!

What a strange coincidence that rainman did an emergency landing into that airport with smoke issues then having a very difficult time resolving the problem.  After reading the thread smoke in the cockpit I really thought that this accident was going to turn up to be him.  I am really happy that we didn't lose one of our own, but obviously saddened by another fellow aviator and pax meeting their demise.  So sad!!

Oh no, I think I met the owner of this fine aircraft.  I will not comment on name but I can tell you if it is who I think it is based upon registration he was a very fine pilot in a top notch Mooney E.  Very sad indeed.

My thoughts go out to the families of the lost.  This was a beautiful highly modified E model.  Fred, the owner was not flying it.  I am sure the details will come to light.  It is so very sad and I very much feel the loss in our Mooney family.

Reading the news account, it sounds like his wheels clipped power lines near the fence, then pitched forward onto the runway.

Looking at the satellite image of the field, I'd say he was approaching from the west. There is a power line running over top of the very end of the runway.
