Yetti Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 If you have some time. Operation Airdrop. From experince this works better at getting aid to the people in the first couple of days while the government is still trying to figure things out. https://www.facebook.com/groups/operationairdrop/?fref=nf&__xts__[0]=68.ARAKVTwf2B1186FRLVCG176dsc3qSn2L2cLlt_phwMW5fVrFJvhZUH_erd5z56sAt7MOrTaxTvbpfZFv8CTEZO9ccr_zsnt-Woip6i6df4sIErL4C9RWLliPnFhiIzWuws5C9HsPiOyJVZSKbSle_mI3-xCadrvVVkhGBLjeNZb_IH5aEnv2-MbTMI0-yn2ufM0AYO1iHul2IoTZCM2bphWlFyQWc_k9UDWG3VUf&__tn__=C-R 2 Quote
Hank Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 (edited) Those of us not on facebook need not apply . . . . . My MIL is in Fayetteville, lots of friends along the state line, 2 hour drive from Myrtle Beach; water is several feet deep there now, and the rivers will rise for several more days. Ah, there's this: https://www.operation-airdrop.com/ Edited September 17, 2018 by Hank 1 Quote
Matt W Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 Thanks, just signed up. Not so known, it’s flooding down in Texas. Quote
Danb Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 Agreed Hank many of us declined to join most social media sites such as Facebook twitter Snapchat etc. for various reasons. 3 Quote

Expand Never been on Fbook. But went to Airdrop's website, signed up, received the auto-welcome message. Followed a link in it to let them know that I need non-facebook ingo and received a personal reply at 10pm CDT! Color me impressed. They're disbursing from RDU, I just don't know where to yet. But I'm ready to go. Should be able to make two trips, RDU to somewhere, and get home in one day. Solo and half tanks leaves 620lb cargo each trip, more if I remove the right front seat. 4 Quote
Yetti Posted September 17, 2018 Author Report Posted September 17, 2018 Still trying to figure out Instagram so I can hang with the cool kids. I flew around 1100 miles making things happen in Texas last year. The logistics folks for Operation Airdrop know their stuff. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 You guys ARE the best! Thanks again, -a- Quote

Danb Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 Ryan from airdrop contacted me, you show up at KRDU, do some paperwork load up and they have the destination for you, seems easy peasy. Quote
gsxrpilot Posted September 17, 2018 Report Posted September 17, 2018 I would love to help out but can't get there until next week. I flew with these guys for Harvey. My Mooney got a work out. 1 Quote

Danb Posted September 20, 2018 Report Posted September 20, 2018 Who said our Mooneys couldn’t hold some stuff, it was great to see 3 other Mooneys at the OAD yesterday many other planes were taking 3-400 lbs, I calculated 550 but could only fit 417 lbs on this run, limited by 120 lbs in back and small entry doors. Awesome the amount of goods and services donated, still need your help. I flew 290 miles to RDU We have lots of Mooneys within a 300 mile circle. 4 1 Quote
Yetti Posted September 20, 2018 Author Report Posted September 20, 2018 If you can find an A&P. Taking the copilot seat out makes them really easy to load and unload. You can get a couple of layers of canned food on the floor. The Mooneys are rockstars at hauling supplies compared to the other brands. Quote
Danb Posted September 20, 2018 Report Posted September 20, 2018 Yep I was going to get my avionics guy to remove the front seat he does it easily Quote
steingar Posted September 20, 2018 Report Posted September 20, 2018 Damn. If I didn't have this job thing I'd be down there with you guys. You dudes rock! 1 Quote
Hank Posted September 21, 2018 Report Posted September 21, 2018 Took what I could, but there was a lot. It was quite warm this weekend. Busy, busy at RDU, too--#12 to land, #7 to depart . . . . 4 Quote

Haven't had a 9-hour day in the cockpit before . . . . I saw some other Mooneys, including a nice blue and white C (3638-something?). Just like traveling with my wife, I ran out of space well before hitting my weight limit (with half tanks, I can carry 600 lbs). Quote
Danb Posted September 21, 2018 Report Posted September 21, 2018 Me to 300 miles to RDU, with a limit of 120 in the back makes getting the stuff in is tough Quote
PMcClure Posted September 21, 2018 Report Posted September 21, 2018 Wish I would have known this earlier. I went up Monday to check on my Mom and Dad (KEQY). Was looking for an opportunity before I came back. Just went and signed up. Looks like a neat operation. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted September 21, 2018 Report Posted September 21, 2018 While I can see the symbolism of support, a single tractor trailer can carry what, a 1000 Mooney loads? 1 Quote

Expand Many roads in SE NC are still flooded. At least one dam broke this week, near Pembroke. In two trips, i carried about a pickup load. They were very excited about the 32 lb box of batteries (a medium box cut down to about 6" tall)--said the Fire Dept. really needed them. It just fit standing on end, up against the wall in the baggage area. 1 Quote
